wtf?? I own a domain I've never seen, at a registrar I've never been to!
how the hell did that happen??
I got a snail mail spam from a competing registrar saying "it's going to expire in 6 months, move the domain to us!" I didn't even know I own it! But sure enough, there's my info in the whois info and everything. |

Or someone was doing something illegal with the domain and switched it into your name.

It's common over in the UK that companies mass register domain names of local businesses, then phoning them and saying they have their domain name, then they renew or buy it
Anything like that? |

I used to get those fake renewal notices from a registrar here in Canada that I had never used before, but they were for domains that I actually owned.
They were trying to get me to transfer to them at an outrageous price, but tried to make it look like I had initially registered it through them. This is probably a similar scam, but apparently they are getting desperate enough to use domains you don't even own yet. ![]() |
