Look at all the bush voters at GFY - they are predominantly libertarians. A massive internet censorship campaign would destroy that libertarian base overnight. And the future libertarian voting block is MUCH bigger than the future christian voting block Right now the republican party has nothing to gain from censoring the internet. THey already have their base locked up. But they do have something to lose from censoring... They lose the up-and-coming libertarian vote and immigrant vote Now look at the democratic party... They just lost an election and it is mostly blamed on percieved "moral values". They are already considered a party of social liberals. Their socially liberal base just LOST them an election (sorry that's the truth - I wish it wasn't). So now the democratic party is in a position to gain by internet censorship. A prominent democrat could launch a campaign to censor the internet and move to the center of their party (and gather conservative christian votes) making them a clear frontrunner in the 2008 election. Do you see the calculation???.. It's purely political. This is the way a Karl Rove or Dick Morris looks at politics Do not view politics through the prism of your own beliefs. Look at what is in the best interest of the party to gain power. Currently, the right has nothing to gain but the left has nothing to lose. That is a dangerous combination We are in for rough times ahead... and it's going to come from places many at GFY are not expecting... you're current friends will be your future enemies Mark my words! |

But the Republicans, not the Democrats, are working with the Conservative Christians (Christo-Naziis) to take down our Federal judiciary judges that don't agree with their biblical-based morality.
From Peter Wallsten, The L.A. Times, 4/22/05 http://www.latimes.com/news/nationwo...la-home-nation And from The Associated Press, 4/20/05 http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/04/....ap/index.html It doesn't sound like lipservice to me when they are having hearings on Capitol Hill concerning "pornography addiction" and how to address the "evil". They are laying the groundwork for another round of legislation to crack down on the adult entertainment industry. See FSC's efforts to counter the propaganda of the right at the hearings: http://www.freespeechcoalition.com/dan_linz.htm Yes, allies will shift over time in the cultural war. But, NOW, we know who our enemies currently are and we need to deal with them NOW. Be an apologist, a right-winged propagandist, or a ostrich with you head in the sand. But, if you choose to be one of these, you can kiss you First Amendment rights goodbye. |
