Here is the broad general conclusion which Dr. Light and his associates reached:

The study shows that morphine addiction is not characterized by physical deterioration or impairment of physical fitness aside from the addiction per se. There is no evidence of change in the circulatory, hepatic, renal or endocrine functions. When it is considered that these subjects had been addicted for at least five years, some of them for as long as twenty years, these negative observations are highly significant.

Details of the study were equally striking. For example, the narcotics addict is popularly portrayed as lean, gaunt, emaciated. A subgroup of about 100 addicts out of the 861 in the Philadelphia study was maintained on adequate doses of morphine and intensively examined and tested while thus maintained. Only four of the 100 were grossly underweight --- emaciated. Six of the 100 were grossly overweight--- obese. The group as a whole weighed within two-tenths of one percent of the norm for their height and age, as determined by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company standards. Yet these addicts before hospitalization had been taking on the average 21 grains of morphine or heroin per day 8 --- more than 30 times the usual dose of the New York City street addict in 1971.

The explanation for the weight findings, which could hardly be more normal, is quite simple. The addicts in the Philadelphia study had ready access to both hospital food and hospital morphine. Under these conditions, they ate well and thrived. The emaciated addict usually described in other studies is one who starves himself to save money for black market drugs--- an ordeal he is able to bear more easily because of the tranquilizing effect of the drugs. The Philadelphia study established that addicts eat like anyone else when both food and drugs are readily available.

I view the current drug laws as a major failure, they cause more problems than then solve. They work against their original intention. I see no point in putting people in jail for causing harm to themselves and their own body. Basically, I think everybody should have their right to screw up their own lives as they please.

i try and stay away from it as much as possible...i learned my lesson a while ago with it, i can get real carried away

when I party I try do a little bit of everything...LOL...that way I don't do too much of one thing

honestly, my favorite thing to do nowadays is just hang on the back porch with some beer, wine and friends, maybe a little other shit here and there...LOL...i just like good company and mind altering substances into the wee hours of the morning

totally...it is just fucking stupid to lock people up for drug charges when it isn't a major trafficking offense...they should be in counseling/rehab when they get busted with crack and a crack pipe, not jail

It's been illegal for a year or 2 now. You need about 2-3 days to even do the stuff. One to take it, wait the 2.5 hours for it to hit, the 20-28 hours it lasts then a full day to sleep. speed is the worst thing to get sucked deep into, that shit is FAR worse than heroin..I was watching that documentary on HBO about meth...speed has surpassed every other drug, legal or not, as the #1 most addictive substance ever...it has a 6% addiction recovery rate

I have done it occasionally, but only when it is right in front of me, i never seek it out really...

i went to far with drugs once in my life, i was up to a 1-2 ounce a week coke habit (whew)....when i finally got out of that phase of my life i realized what addiction was and my mind sort of snapped into the mentality I have now...I can recognize myself going to far and can stop myself now...it is really amazing, and I never would have been this way if I had not been an addict at one time.

but speed is scarey, and I can understand some peoples negativity towards drugs if they have ever been around a heroin or speed addict...

I've had meth and various other amphet derivatives and i hate them. I hate the amping. I hate the staying up. I hate being strung out from a few day bender. I generally have insomnia as is and have used pot in the past as a sleep aid, currently using some sort of benzo or ambien, etc. I can't understand why people would want to be awake for days on end on purpose. I understand there is a euphoria involved, which always amazed me about ephedra use. It's like speed without the fun. In my experience meth isn't that huge around nyc(where i am and have always been) as it is prevelant on the west coast, in the middle of nowhere, the south, massachusetts... well lots of places.

Ever been around crazy artsy types who have big crystal habits. For some reason tweaking makes them think everything they say or do is profound even way more than the pot/tripping type fascinations with every day minutia. That alone is enough to turn me off of it. lol

I've had a busy day and i'm rambling and getting off on odd tangent rants so I'll stfu now.

There's an East Coast gathering of the Shroomery.org/com in Ohio sometime in May or June. Should be a fucking killer time. I'm really good friends with the Admins of the site. Oh and aside from being in Kentucky that sounds like my idea of a good time. Choking down that ayuhuasa brew ain't an easy task. Keeping it down is next to impossible. It's all part of the experience according to the natives. The purging is supposed to cleanse you. The guy on Travel Sick which airs on comedy central did an ayuhuasca brew on the show.

The craziest shit I've ever (may or may not have experiences during a dream probably based on some obscure writing a friend may have told me about in passing

/disclaimer) experienced was a combination of a lot of mild dosages of several things.

My grandpa was a drunker, my father is a drunker...

But I'm not the person to continue this tradition. Mother suffered a lot because of my father, and I suffered too. When they asked me whether they should stay together or not ( I was 13 then) - I said that divorce was the only way out and that my father should go away...

That is a crock of shit. Drugs and or alcohol are not an escape for most people. Saying it is such is only an attempt at casting a bad light on them. People assume others use drugs because they have problems almost exclusively. Not only are they fun and have very little to do with problems, they also may act as tools to examine the reality most are so quick to say the user is trying to escape in a different light or perspective. I'm not addicted to alcohol, though I have bad "legacy" because of my father and grandpa. I don't think there exists addiction to alcohol - only weak will - that's f...g all! And another point here to be mentioned, that people who use alcohol and drugs just try to escape the reality we live in...
