50 HOT DJS AND MCs

it really comes down to marketing. half if not more of the big name djs have sold out and dont even put out mixes that they do themselves. their labels mix them, or they mix them in pro tools. i hate sterile studio mixes. thats why i only release "live" club mixes. its the same with marketing pop stars. ashley simpson sucks an ass, but her father is a master marketer along with the label and they kill. they target and massacre their target demograhic. an artist can suck an ass as long as they have a great marketing team and producers to honey up the tracks.

dream on- the money is being made hand over fist with pre-release samples and cuts a la emenem is sitting in the studio with flex on a sunday night and lays down tracks that come out 2 days later all over while the actual label release is 6 months away. the other market is recording live performances at the hip hop club and getting them out with all the pre-release sample in days. all the rest of the sales and trance, house etc. don't amount to shit. the cache is not there. i am going to shut up now before my nyc guy flies out here and stuffs a rag in my mouth and lites it on fire.

btw my favorite label is om records and they gave us the rights to use their songs on our flash tour at http://XPays.com

our apparel line http://XThreadz.com also sponsored a 5 date tour with john howard, miguel migs, soulstice etc with Om. Good people- they'll never make any money though...

edit- music on the xthreadz flash tour is also om

i think we are talking about two different things. i dont get into the hip hop thing too much. i should have been more clear. i am talking about the whole ZTRIP and Too Many DJs type of stuff and club stuff. hip hop is a messed up fucked up world of big time money. not interested. i am club life, you know that. oakie makes 30 g's for some shows. (why i dont know). sasha, vandyk, tiesto, taucher, and the list goes on, about the same. this is about us. fuck those guys. i've opened for quite a bit of these "big" djs and i stood there and wondered how they get paid what they do. they don';t mix any better or program any better. you just have to find what you like to do and stick with it. i hate hip hop clubs. nothing but fucking attitude assholes and hard looks. i am about clubs where no one has an attitude and you can talk to anyone, their girl, and their girls girls. hip hop is a big mess. you are a house head too somewhere in your blood. i know it. you have mad love for house. i wanna see what the djs in this biz can do. seems like alot of people have come out of the woodworks as of late. i am gonna guage the talent pool. thats what i wanted from this thread.

you seem to be real into the hip hop dj market, while most of us posting her are in the edm dj market....those are WAY two seperate things...and when i say WAY, i mean it...there is almost nothing similar about about dj dan and his career as opposed to shortkut and his career...the ways and means in the two genres of music are completely different

yeah, i posted the same thing before reading your post

the edm club world and hip hop club world are 500% different about what goes down and how it goes down

you can't compare a climb to success for a hip hop dj and a edm dj...you just can't do it...and i know xpays knows the hip hop dj world inside and out...just like we know the edm dj world inside and out

what genre of music would the competition be? I am not sure I wanna do battle shit in front of a crowd again, i love doing in my house and on cd's, but I enjoy edm and can get into being more of myself if I was doing what I love on the decks

and as far as a dj competition with edm styles? i would not trust it...cause I have this wierd feeling that someone get up there and play sandstorm and some other cheesy trance tracks and get more votes and win cause the audience and judges recognize songs over style

i think if there were some sort of competition, one of the rules should state that contestants had to use current playlist tracks composed of new music...cause anyone can get up on stage and play sandstorm and move mindless masses...know what I mean?

there is a local dj here in town that is praised by the club goers as being the best dj in town....this dude is so fucking annoying to real club goers, cause he will take new songs and mash them up with sandstorm...he has a new sandstorm mash up every week...it is amazing...to the mindless club masses he is the shit, cause mindless club masses never want to let go of that one moment when they first heard or danced to a top 40 song

yeah, i posted the same thing before reading your post

the edm club world and hip hop club world are 500% different about what goes down and how it goes down
the main reason for me posting this is because i overheard some things from people who i didnt know that were talking some BS that they heard from people who i didn't think would talk BS.

evan is old school too. he was right there in the beginning with the whole underground line of clothes and dj slipmats, etc, before he brought his djing to the public. i still have the slipmats and actually use them in clubs where the floors are shaky because they are thicker and absorb more of the shock.
since we were the first to bring djs and the culture into the conventions and such, back when i wasn't even a good dj, i got to see how the industry came up into the dj thing to date. now, about every other booth at internext has a dj. R.O.B. from vegas was the second as far as i know. i forget who brought him, if someone knows fill me in, the booth was right by xpays in 2001 jan i believe right after the show turned from ia2000 to internext.

nowadays, people have figured out that you can use the whole "dj" thing to market yourself and a program. i'm just basically guaging the industries talent level. i want to see more of it. i also want to see the talent level. i am a competitor and am very aggressive at everything i do. some like it some don't.

thread took a turn without me knowing. just to clarify why i started it, ther it is. i want to create a sub culture within a culture. i will do that. you're all a part of it now.

i'd really like to see you get tiesto. oakie is overrated and overpaid. ;)
you have gotten good talent through the years and even let me spin before i was even a good dj, (i was ok at best at the time). i dont think the adult people are gonna vibe on him. i have had to butcher my style to be accepted by the webmasters. they love commercial shit. even paul van dyk or armand van helden would be better.

also, if you want a reggae dj between the bands for players ball, get Dj Supa Mario, he is sd based and i think you actualy introduced him to me.

actually D brpught sasha before i came into the picture.

you already know I am 100% a part of whatever you want to do

i am already planning something for internext 2005 hollywood....I am hoping to get it to players ball status, but with edm instead of hip hop...and no d-money, not gunna steal your idea LOL...just gunna do a rave style thing....

i hope we can pull it off, it would be phat to have a players ball and a rave style event as the two main parties at internext!

i am all about tiesto, he is a great dj and actually unlike oakenfold and sasha, still sticks to the old school and knows how to move a crowd with his soul and flow as opposed to with his cd's and laptop...

but I personally love people like dj dan, donald glaude, etc....i really wanna bring Evil Nine to a party at internext..that would be off the hook...they are blowing up right now huge

Oh yeah, left him out of the DJ line up. He did Vegas in 1999. He's not that good, but has a big colletion of records.

I've helped turn Evan into a reggae DJ, he has a great feel for mixing between the dancehall and singers with a nice hip hip reggae mix here and there. Evan's played the Reggae party when we had Third World in florida and plays lot's of reggae during the Players Ball, Buju, Shabba, Beenie, Capleton... Just had to give some props to my DJ, he works for free, I can at least compliment him when I can.

yes you are. ;) my official dj/designer.

theres nothing really to pull off. we need a little unity and some structure within the dj community here. its just healthy. like a little union of deckmasters. i have a site in the works for us already, should be done asap.

i'll release the name and site within a week probably. it looks decent, but i sent the guy back to make changes. looked a little cheesy.

I've been very impressed with the talent in the GFY pool.

I've already spoken with Airek and Yt and others imformally...

But if anyone is interested in submitting a mix for FLASHCASH's Emerging DJ Mix Series Volume 2 (to be released at FL Internext)...

Email me and I'll give you details. halcyon (AT) flashcash.com or halcyon (AT) cockybastard.com

and as far as a dj competition with edm styles? i would not trust it...cause I have this wierd feeling that someone get up there and play sandstorm and some other cheesy trance tracks and get more votes and win cause the audience and judges recognize songs over style

it would be a fusion type competition probably. any and all dance formats diffused into each other. an experiment of sorts. taking multiple genres, eras, and styles of anything. the only thing not allowed is you can't take the competition mainstream or pop. entirely underground, but all goes. you can do rare grove, electronic all style, and anything that didnt fit into the dance category pre 1992. this requires turntablism. for me it will let me do stuff that i normally do not get to do and show diversity. we all do what we do so much it would be fresh to get into something that we don't get to do alot. skills are skills and they transfer over no matter what you do in electronic and resampling, etc. so Pre 1992 anything but the really pop stuff that you would think is still whack today. Ok, basically this rule translates into this. "if girls dance to it, and they get their panties wet over it, it flys". we all know if girls dont rock their ass to it, its whack. isn't that what it's all about anyhow? any and all fusion forms of electronic, including current elc club vibes, (house, NRG, progressive, tance, house, dancehall, reggaeton, broken beat, rare grooves, etc.) this is about turntablism. this should be alot of fun. if any or all of you are up for some fun and some openminded experiment, lets get with it.

if anyone has anything idfferent in mind, bring it up, we can change this anyway. lets have some fun with this.

A1R3K...you da man baby...like your skills.

I must throw down rank on everyone here, not too many people on this board had Rick James himself walk in the first press vinyl 12 inch long version of Super Freak, first 100 copies and have it handed to him to play in front of 1200 people on a Sat night in Hollywood. Dat would be me.

One of the first reporting super young (and hung) DJ's of the explosion of the Disco/dance era. It was the most retarded and amazing time for Music drugs and seriously bad behavior.

One of the top 10 reporting disco dj's to Record World, Cash Box and Billboard mags...not to mention Top 10 play lists and most added to the LA radio stations secondary the main ones.

It was all about the technics SL 1800 table baby, with the Cerwin Vega, slide and I liked the Bozack knob/pots sometimes.

Biggest challenge on technique, guest DJ spot biggest gay club in west Hollywood Studio One (which is now Arena) 2500 guys jammin to one very flaming heterosexual?s mixes. That crowd not only demanding but if you fucked up you were OUT. Needless to say I was invited over and over again; Sat nights tuned me up for major technical mixing as well as adding flavor and style to the mix, take um and takes them down all thru the night....

I stopped spinning records and became a promoter for 75 different clubs over a 17 year period of time... being a dj is not just knowing what to play, its all timing and the "feel" of what is going on in the room and being able to fuck with it and control it ..........

I do miss it, but get to see a great one DJ A1R3K rip it up, spins with the same passion, and for sure brings me back in time to see myself.

Cheers...

theres a lot of dicksucking and ass kissing that goes on on the boards for no reason, and i am not one to get too deep into stuff like that, but to be a dj and not give props to a guy like mike, is sacrilage. this dude is the damn pope of club djs basically. i have had many chances to pick his brain and get stories from him and i am nothing more than floored by his life experiences as a nightclub dj and promoter in the most fruitful time in dance/club history. if you remember hearing about studio 54 and roxbury and other famous clubs of the disco era, he was one of the top dudes behind the decks. we are doing an indepth sit down interview for a major globally distributed dj magazine. the interview is locked down and we are gonna ask him some crazy direct questions. trust me, he has no problem answering anything i throw at him.

long live the pope.

hey now.

ive been fucking around bustin freestyles since 1st grade lol... thats like 20 years ago. So when beastie boys came around i thought 'yea us whiteys can rap too'... haha. In 4th grade i got suspended from school for doing a rap on the schoolbus on the way home with my boy jay about a girl we found out that likes him. Totally packed schoolbus, they all went crazy.. and the bitch did too... and only ratted ME out! fucking HO.

all my best shit is written of course yet ive never took the time out to seriously record some of my good ones. But me and my boy jason will throw down freestyle anytime. But put together a contest where you let written flows in and i will get fucking tricky on you.

heres a webcam vid i did a few months ago out of the blue, i asked my boy Reprazent on instant messenger what i should flow about, and him being a network admin said 'the deactivation and deletion of nt user accounts'.

http://unknownorigin.com/muezik/ntuser.avi

im not too good with freestyles... im always losing focus on shit, lol. My boy Jason can go ON and ON and ON for fucking hours without slipping his tongue. He is crazy.

heres another i did a few weeks later with my boy jason and john.... mind you john has never freestyled before... lol

http://camflows.com/freestyles/2-19-2005-1.wmv

yo Bryce you owe me some cam flowage ! :P

so yea, if theres a contest or something, put me down. i'll play.

Airek, why not setup something at Onyx room at the SD show, you, YT, Split and Evan. Show us folk how you do it?
Seems like Split, YT, and you are in, hit Evan up see if he wants a piece.

For those of you who don't know I have played with some of the biggest DJ's and rappers too. Today 50 cent was on the radio and I was tapping my foot to all the beats, yesterday I had a CD of Tiesto on and I was tapping along with my pen. ;)

I think a cool event at the SD show would be a lounge club with these guys just having fun, take the word competition out of it and just have fun. Airek is super talented, and even better when he does not drink, Jester after the D$ show yesterday you might lay low on the sauce too when you play. ;)
Evan has definitely been playing since back in the show days, once he got over the skate board ramp booth, ;)
Jester why not have Split host a night at something real low profile like Onyx or Thin in downtown SD and you guys put on a show for us.
BTW if you do this idea D$ can you invoice the sponsor $2k for me for coming up the idea please.

Aight, back to DJ'ing today, I am in the mood to play with Sasha and Digweed today.

holy shit that's right. Krosh really does do a good job too. i need to hear some of the other guys, but just like Halcyon said, i am very impressed with the dj talent pool so far here in adult. you are very diverse and i have to say i was surprised and relieved at the same time. i was afraid when i got to the party i was in for a good ear butchering. you rock man.

damn someone is swinging on tiesto's nuts, yes hes a great dj, only one to win 3yrs in a row of #1 DJ, but his new shit is so soft and weak, seen him at ultra about a few weeks ago, and it was nothing like his older shit, more of a deep trance then the progressive, hard trance style he had in the past. The style he has now would be the chill room, not to much dancing going on if your not under the influence of some drug. Just my 2 cents

I'd love to have a bunch of DJ's come to the studio and chop something up.

If we can arrange for these supa DJ's to come to Diego town, we can try it out. I don't want to make it a competition though, just an exhibition. More fun to display skills then have to display them and lose a competition. Should be about having fun.

Maybe after my next live show in 2 weeks.
