I've seen people linking to google from their sites and I've seen it mentioned somewhere in an article about linking back to google. Does that shit actually mean anything?

i think linking to quality sites can boost PR
I had a site with only outbound links and no inbound links and it went from PR0-PR5 in one update.

Inbound: They link to me

I linked to a bunch of other sites one of my domains, i didnt ask or got a link back and i know have a PR5

Google ranks you based on both who links to you and who you link to ... as long as the incoming and outgoing links are relevant to your site. So, for most of us here it shouldn't help, but you never know - Google may just give a little boost to those that link back to them but I'd don't think anyone's proved it yet.

What's the URL?

I can guarantee you have inbound links, or Google has your website "confused" with another link.

Btw, you simply cannot gain PR with just plain outgoing links.

Yep. My guess is that it reads you as a resource site. Unfortunately, many directory type sites have gone down in SE rankings recently. Case of spammy directories screwing it up for the legit ones?

Outbound links does not provide you with PR in anyway whatsoever... otherwise every joe schmoe would be linking to sites like msn, news stations, and other high PR sites. You only get PR (page rank) from incoming links to your site. Page rank is based on sites voting for you. If anything you're sending PR to those links.
