We encourage our affiliates to take a look at our member?s area. Apart from being proud that we are actually providing our customers what they want we also want to make sure that affiliates see what our site is all about so that they can market it properly.

Business 101, we provide a good product and want to make sure that it?s marketed properly.

Those free picture and video galleries were invented to get the sales.

This thread is humorous. This business is based on the model of charging $20 - $40 a month for content. $40!!!!! $40 is a cable bill. High speed access, Dinner for two and a movie. Up to 40 magazine subscriptions, including adult titles. I dont care how good the members area is, this business is based on ripping people off. No one here can possibly justify a price tag like that and say the consumer is getting fair value. People will pay more for less when it comes to the adult industry. That simple. A guy will bitch about $45 a ticket for Disneyland but gladly shell that out for 2 lap dances at a strip club. $10 for a movie?? Outrageous! $40 for a members area to a adult site? Sounds good? Dont think so. The basic retention in this industry is based on people forgetting that they have a membership. People come to an adult site to get off, they join the trial and pay a repectable amount, $1 to $5, then they get off. Then most cancel. The ones that forget, get charged for their forgetfullness. (of course there are exceptions to this rule, ie: single girl sites where guys fall in love etc) So if your business model is based on 30% retention off of the trial, the best way to get there, is to create a members area that is good, but not great. Great, people remember, and no matter how great, $40 is a ton of money to spend per month. So if you make it mediocre, the customer gets off, and forgets about it, then get charged per month. A certain amount get their credit card statement and realize and call and get a refund, the rest chalk it up as their own fault and the paysite gets paid.

It would be a great world if everybody in this business put up memorable and great members areas, but if you continue charging $40 for it, the consumer will continue to feel riped off. The future of the industry is a reduced monthly rate, most likely charged on a yearly basis, much like magazines, with cross and upsells, utilyzing the versitility of the web. Eventually the free content on the net will catch up to the current paysite model and force it to evolve to real world economics. Its the basic law of supply and demand.

$20-40 is nothing. The price of 1-2 adult DVDs and you get much more content in the members area than on those DVDs...I guess you are one of those "ripped off" surfers you talk about.

Nice post, I pretty much agree with everything

b. How many webmasters have come and gone in this biz. Would you rather make bulk $$ (with the potential to piss off fellow webmasters and loose your rep) then bail out or slowly maintain $$ and build with a decent rep. I'll never understand that. Once your rep is gone, you're done! Just because you do biz online, people don't forget.
This is an important point, not just on the local level, but also globally. That is to say, not only do you have a rep, but our industry as a whole has a reputation, and sadly it's mostly not good. Promoting high quality sites with good content, updates and a high quality members area helps not just you, but our industry as a whole. The synergy this creates can undoubtedly increase profit margins tenfold as consumers realize that there are respectable, legitimate companies they can do business with online. One bad experience may turn a potential customer into someone that badmouths our entire industry forever.

Sadly that is a philosophy that is all too common. I do agree that cross selling niche sites is a good marketing strategy, but not when they have poor or little content. I would rather make 10 million dollars in 6 years promoting a nice legit program, knowing that the customer base I build over this course of time will spend another 10 million dollars 6 years later, rather than disappearing forever.

Well written article, and so true - makes me think about joining your program!

BS! Several years ago you could find much better "free porn" than today - have you looked recently at high traffic TGPs? 90% post nothing but sponsor hosted galleries or copies thereof, submitted by dumb or lazy (or both) webmasters.
TGP galleries with decent lay-out and content are so rare - - - Thank God!
Otherwise the up-sell would be even harder than it is...

Over the past few weeks, I've had the opportunity to see the members area of various sites. Many of the sites that are highly promoted have the worst members area! Some are good, but for the most part, the members area are 100% shit! I saw one of my competitors sites and his site hasn't been updated since 03. As a surfer, I would be pissed! I downloaded a famous video and the "money shot" wasn't included with the membership. I would have to join another site, shell out $29.95 to see the ending. What kind of shit is that! As a surfer, I would be pissed and cb or refund.

This biz is 2 parts traffic and content, not 1 or the other.

a. For ex, What's the point in sending traffic to a shitty members area? The customer will cb, refund and most likely, you won't see them as a future customer. Is it worth risking your account for a sale? Shit... surfers are getting smarter and the shit that flew a few yrs ago, doesn't fly today! Remember the basic rules of biz, it easier to maintain a current customer rather than acquiring a new one. Same rule applys to this biz. It's simple biz 101.

b. How many webmasters have come and gone in this biz. Would you rather make bulk $$ (with the potential to piss off fellow webmasters and loose your rep) then bail out or slowly maintain $$ and build with a decent rep. I'll never understand that. Once your rep is gone, you're done! Just because you do biz online, people don't forget.

c. To keep the customer, you need to provide a quality service or product. Think about it, Would you rebuy a product or service you weren't satisfied with? The same rules appy in adult. The key shouldn't be to scam or mislead the surfer. Honestly, put yourself in the surfers position... if you join a site, would you be happy seeing something that was promised but wasn't?

d. I don't care about the politics or bs in this biz. For the ones that are knowing pushing sites with a great tour and a crap members area, you are slowing destroying this biz and taking potential future sales away from everyone else.

I think I got the main points out
Not to be a dick or anything but you're too new to this biz to offer up your thoughts and be taken seriously.

Wow, this is an old thread... got bumped I see. All good

I didn't start this thread to win brownie points, just woke up one morning and wrote everything in 10-15minutes. I speak my mind and I don't hold back. Yep, 5yrs and I'm proud of that. If I was a big program or if I had one of the hottest sites around, shit would be overlooked and I'd be looked at differently. Exactly my point about how this biz is
