I have Blue Cross/Shield -it's Cobra- and they are raking me $500 a month...

I'm going to go for the individual and family plan one from them instead, much cheaper...their phone # is...1-800-910-1010.

(I was just on phone with them today that is way number is handy ;)

if all else fails, beg a friend who owns a big company to put you on their company plan

This place is good to compare plans, kinda like progressive but for people not cars.

http://www.ehealthinsurance.com/ehi/index.html

I got a plan from them that gives full coverage for my son and basic coverage for my wife and me but will probably upgrade soon as I want the peace of mind of knowing pretty much everything is covered since you never know what tomorrow may bring.

As was mentioned above a business health insurance plan is a better deal. You may want to form a corporation for this and other benefits if you don't have one already for ~ US$300 at places like http://www.thedelawarecompany.com. Incorporate in Delaware or offshore not Nevada as apparently Nevada corps are getting put under a microscope since many Adult companies incorporate here.

i think I am going to wait until I have kids... I am 22 and I haven't been to the DR in probably 7+ years... The dentist is pretty affordable for check ups...

I called a couple places that wouldn't insure me because I was under 25 and self employed. I've heard good things about blue cross though. But for 500$ a month I'd rather put that into a savings... make money on it and use that if something goes wrong.

damn blue cross blue shield here wouldn't give me any dental or eye which sucked. My insurance is pretty cheap though. like $250 every 3 months. I haven't been to the doctor or been on any meds for pry close to 3 years now though so it isn't like it ever gets used.

Every state is different and let me tell you, Washington State SUCKS for health insurance!

Bills were passed in this state so that everyone can get insurance no matter how sick they are. Terminal disease... no prob, just come to WA. Nice deal for people who are sick BUT.... for those of us who are healthy....

The insurance companies have raised their rates beyond insane in Washington State to cover all those who move here because they aren't insurable anywhere else.

I've tried Group Health.... Not impressed, plus Blue Cross/Blue Shield is half the cost for exactly the same coverage. Stay away from anything that makes you Join their co-op in order to get insurance. All they do is create a mish-mash of plans from multiple companies and, from my experience, never pay their part without kicking and screaming if even then.

You have to be healthy in a year, no hospital records whatsoever.

Health insurance can get expensive, the price of some people's rent, at least you will die on a matress and not in the street
