Florida take a lot ferwe hits, that the " Idiots " living along the Mississippi river, that over flows every spring, and wipes out the towns along there. Or the " Idiots " that live in Canada, and have their cars crashed and destroyed by the snow.

And having been born and raised in Florida, The " Idiots " there are better prepared for a storm than most people in the area that was hit by the tsunami.

You can't compare what happened in a ill-prepared 3rd world country with no warning systems to what would happen in the US. Sure, you cant prepare for a 9.0 earthquake but still, those houses and huts over there are made out of rock & bricks..

Yup. FL has hurricanes. Cali has earthquakes. The midwest has tornados. In Canada, it's easy to say "Glad I don't live there!" because we so rarely have any kind of natural disaster, but even though you can dress for the snow, I bet most folks down south wouldn't trade a few weeks of hurricane season etc. for a few months of below zero temperatures.

Parts of the Canadian border sit in Tsunami territory; with precedent.

Canada also hosted the worlds worst drought in recorded history a couple years ago that costed them a fortune.

Glaciers, snow melting from global warming causes flooding and when combined with population growth, the frequency of disasters are on the rise.

You guys just haven't noticed them yet. Florida and California are sprawling with people, end to end. We can't miss them.

I live in Newport Beach, 1 block from sand. It is uncanny, but everytime I walk on the beach I think "what in the hell would I do if that ocean drained."

I never thought of it in such perspective. I have felt quakes on the coastline and thought nothing. Now if I feel even a tremor, I feel as though I have a decision to make.

When I first moved to California 7 years ago, I was fully aware of Tsunamis. Most people who surf or do a little extra reading on those affairs are. I found it astounding that most Californians (would / probably will) respond by telling you that Catalina and the set of Islands off of Ventura will break the Tsunami energy. This has apparently been on the news.

I always found this logic interesting. I mean, California is known for its heavy swells. I surf them. Somehow, those waves find our coastline

True, but living in the great white gives us certain advantages.

For example, anyone who's in the middle of winter in canada can go to someplace moderately warm and be perfectly happy swimming in an unheated pool when it's 20-22 degrees C, or walking around in shorts in the 12-15C range.

The flip side of course is that, at least to me, anything over +35 is essentially 'taunting death' territory.
