I have a Timneh African Grey.. much smaller.. and relatively quiet but extremely smart. Her name is Kara... she calls my boys by name using my voice. She calls the cats "here kitty kitty", sings several songs, knows the first half of the alphabet song, the microwave beep, tons of whistles (among them the Ed, Ed and Eddie theme), and tons more.
all I can say is... the post is useless without a video!

I've been owned by two Goffin Cockatoos for the last 20 years! First thing I taught them was potty training. I'm amazed at how smart they can be. My youngest used to like to dig in the dirt with his beak. Now, he's learned how to use a stick to dig with and it's a hoot watching him in the park, looking for "just the right stick."

They can be a bit loud when they need you for something. Again, training can take care of that. They are a total babe magnet when we go out. My older one loves to give "pretty girl kisses." Bum gets more action than I do. LOL

Of all the pets I've ever had, cockatoos are definitely the pet of choice for me. Smart, funny and great company when no one's around. Like living with 2 clowns. However, you have to remember that they acquire a mentality of around a 5-6 year old kid and that's it. Therefore, you'll have a 5 year old "for the rest of your life!" And, they fight over toys, just like kids.

As long as I tell them "It's ok," they'll go to anyone I hand them to.

Having a hookbill as a pet requires work on your part to fashion the bird to your lifestyle. I got neither as chicks so mine don't talk. However, over the past 20 years, I've learned what about 10 or 15 of their "calls" mean. So, communication isn't a problem.

And, by all means, have them "implanted" with an ID chip!!!!!
