Ever feel like your just not gonna make it in life? Ever?

Well lots of you probably havent, but i know i have, and it doesnt feel good!

look at the date on THIS POST - GFY GOODBYE

About 3yrs ago i couldnt pay my rent and was given a 2 week notice to get out if i didnt pay something, couldnt pay my cable bill to stay online, couldnt afford to keep my car on the road.

A time when i would have to beg, borrow or steal anything i needed, paying for it was not an option.

I look back at this time and realize how hard it was for a few people to stand by me, and god damn im greatful!

My GF at the time i was with for 6yrs at the time, at some point must have wondered why she was with such a loser! why didnt she just move on? i think i would have, i know thats a bad thing to say. Since then i have engaged her and i buy her every little thing her heart desires. With her for 9yrs now!

My family really put up with a lot. They dont have any money and really needed me to kick in for bills, and i didnt, making it very tough for them. I know they are parents and *have* to do that stuff, but in return i now pay the taxes on their house every 3mo (about $8k per year), and today (jan 22nd, my birthday!) we are awaiting a delivery of a furniture set for the living room, and a painter to show up to paint the house ... on me!

Money cant buy happiness i know, but it can make some peoples lives a bit easier and more comfortable. Thanks to me now my fiance has that feeling that she never has to reach in her pocket for a dime! nomatter what she wants! Sounds stupid for me to do this, but it really makes me feel good to return that favor.

Also thanks to me, my parents get to sleep a bit easier knowing im eating the biggest portion of their bills! They too deserve some enjoyment in life, and at this point id be more than happy if it came at my expense.

As a result of my willingness to splurge on items for other people, im not saving much compared to what i *could* be saving. However i make enough money now where i can do all my splurging and still have a good amount left over to save! I will be working on this, i know nothing is definate and at any time i can be right back at the bottom, so id like to save a bit more to protect myself in the future.

I dont really agree with personal earnings disclosure, but since i disclosed when i was making nothing, and most of you have known me through my troubled times, as well as the sake of this argument ...

NOT counting my adult income (which is very little at this point) i grossed over $150,000.00 this year, and the future looks promising! Doesnt sound like much compared to what some people on this board make, but i am fucking loveing it! making me feel very good about myself.

There are 3 reasons i typed this long ass emotional post.

1. for those at their bottom now, understand that it only gets better! dont give up, keep kicking and pushing and you will feel better for it!

2. for those that have been at their bottom, dont forget who stood by you when you were down! dont be afraid to remind them how much you appreciated those times.

3. i just felt like ranting since its my Bday today, so deal with it, heh

I remember reading the first post. Glad, it turned around for you.

PS take it from me. I made huge bling in 2004 and so far 2005 is sucking big time. Always nice to have some money put away for the reversal.

hitting bottom is not a fun thing that's for sure. I'm there as we speak BUT I don't have it in me to give up. I just know that I have to smarten up and work my ass off to bring me back to the level I was at or much higher. It will all come in time but if you give up you'll never know what could have been.

Happy birthday by the way

Congrats lil2rich4u, it's definitely a wide-awakening once you get your life back on track.

I did the same thing, restructured myself, and went from pennies to Benjamin Franklins.

What are you doing now? SEO?

Btw, Happy Birthday!

Rich, most every entrepreneur I've ever met, with the exception of those that had family money to bounce back on, have gone through times like that. You're not the only one.

What is sad to watch especially on GFY since so many guys are still in their 20's is how many of them think now that they're into 6, 7 and 8 figures a year its always going to be that great and just keep going up forever.

Trust me folks, the game doesn't work that way. Its like a casino. You'll have many winning streaks, some go on for years and decades, but there will come a time when what you've got working so well now, will start to putter out on you. It might not even be your fault. Things change. Markets change. Competition gets insane. Laws impact your businesses. Disasters happen. It could be anything.

But the only thing I've found in my years of business that's guaranteed is change. And your best bet is to be ready for it. Because if it hits when you're all cocky and haven't saved for the rainy days you will get knocked right smack on your ass and back into the struggle of scrambling for every dollar just to keep you and your business afloat.

I've gone through a couple really fucked up down cycles myself. I had tremendous success at a very young age and I got cocky as hell thinking ok now I'm going to invest in all sorts of deals and be a mogul and trust others to help me run all my deals and kick back and enjoy semi-retirement. Wow did I get a surprise. The minute I started working less after making a lot of money when I was in my 20's and 30's everything started going sideways. I worked my ass off to bounce back and did it. But it was damn scary cause I was dealing in millions and all of a sudden you're into lots of deals and realize holy shit this one isn't doing what it was projected to. That one my partner ripped me off and fucked up the company. This one the industry just went to hell because of new regulations. It could be anything that fucks your money flow up. But it will happen and sometimes without any warning. You should prepare yourself now for the art of mastering recovering a business as well as building a business.

One mentor I had gave me some of the best words of advice of my life when I was younger and I still use these to keep focused always and work hard always without ever slacking off. He said to me, "You've made a lot of money at a young age, more than most people make their whole life working, but never forget if you want to keep this kind of money you must not stop working the math of it." I didn't get the meaning of what he meant by that and was puzzled and said "the math of it, in what way?" He said, "This money you're making isn't always going to come in like the gusher it is now, trust me, something will happen one day and the river will become a stream and you will have to gather your wits and go out exploring for another river." He continued by saying, "Take a pad of paper and write down how much money you made this year from your business. Now multiply that by 40 years and look at the size of that number. Its quite daunting isn't it?" "I saw his point instantly looking at it from that perspective." He said, "See if you become a superstar player at a young age, you've got to look at it like in sports, think how many home runs you're going to need now to stay a superstar player, keeping in mind every year new young guys will be in the game going for top spots too."

The lesson being if you made lets say a couple million this year, you've got $80 Million more to make to keep that level of success going. $80 Million? That's a big fucking load of joins isn't it?

Congrats on your success Rich. Now work twice as hard and keep it in first gear. You've got age on your side. That is a tremendous advantage. But you have to make millions more now over the next decades and never forget that objective.

Thanks Slap. I really enjoy sharing my experiences so the younger guys get some solid insight and widsom from someone who has been at the game of business for a long time.

But you have to make millions more now over the next decades and never forget that objective.
good post, I completely agree that nometter how much you made, you have to keep on making at least the same amount but try to shoot for more... i made alot when I was younger but I blew alot of $ on stupid shit, but at least I KNOW my mistake now -)

why do you have to keep on making at least the same amount as you have for the past 5 or 10 years, for the rest of your life? unless you're burning all the money at the same rate you make it, that is a load of shit.

Because that's how the math works if you live well and want to have an increasingly better lifestyle every year. Unless you've figured out a way to make everything you invest in turn out exactly the way its projected to and think the cost of living isn't going to go up ever again.

Use the link below to calculate your cost of living to the year 2040.

yeah, I forget where I heard it - but there was a study done and there comes a point in which when you exceed around $40k per year - your level of happiness does not increase much at ALL.

which makes perfect sense because $40k is roughly a number (for 1 person at least) to live comfortably without having to worry too much.

anymore money than that is usually purely for materialistic purposes. and we all know materialism only brings temporary happiness - the saying "money can't buy happiness" becomes true once you reach the point where your necessities and cost of living are covered.

Well fuck of course not at that level. Obviously in the billions that's different scenario. We're talking about just average high incomes here, not billionaires.
