i watched a good chunk of it (i have to sleep sometime)i thought she did fine til she wouldn't answer the torture questions... though I wasn't aware nudity was considered torture.

I watched it, and I would definitely say no way. Secretary of State is our primary voice to other nations, and this bitch stonewalls her own country's Congress.

I also don't think she is qualified enough to be our broker during things like middle east peace talks and dealing with north korea.

Powell was an ideal choice, too bad he threw his hat in the ring with Bush, because he doesn't fit the shoes of a puppet very well.

No I think she is absolutely wrong for the post. She is too much of a "yes" person and asskiss to Bush. He needs someone in there who will talk him around if his course of action needs it.

Well...I believe she is the wrong person to be Secretary of State. She has an outstanding academic background but I am not impressed by her persona and I do not think that she comes across as having any great diplomatic skills. Senator Biden and Senator Boxer question her truthfulness...but to me the key here is the fact that she has been caught being less than truthful on multiple occasions...which speaks to her raw intelligence. In ohter words if she is not smart enough to lie and not get caught in the lie...I do not think that she is smart enough to hold such a high position of power.

I couldn't have said it much better...have to totally agree with you on this one...

Powell was a much better choice for that position, unfortunately I don't think Bush wanted an independent, thoughtful person for the job...

I did have a lot of respect for Powell...but my respect is diminished to some extent...because I believe that he was used and I think he became aware of this and I further think he should have resigned as Secretary of State. Because he did not resign earlier my respect for him is not at its highest level.

From what is known of Rice prior to any politics, she is a very bright person and highly qualified.

Since being an advisor to the President - frankly I don't see what she has done. She was given, in an off-the-cuff remark by Bush, the job of creating some relationship between Israel and Palestine and undertook to visit often and establish some plan. That resulted in one visit and the talk ended.

Other than that she has spewed the words of the Whitehouse, lies, slants and the rest and sees nothing wrong with this - at least from the hearing.

It is hard to trust a person who participated and promoted the level of screwups (whether by design or not), that occurred over the last few years.

She was also the person who said prior to this Admin taking any office... and this is not out of context, "US soldiers are trained to kill and that's what they should be doing."

There are more occasions where she was in the oil biz and clearly in the pockets of others and these were of a political nature, tho she was not in politics at that time.

Overall, in a new position.. she is supposed to represent the US and relate both US policy to other nations and create relationships covering many subjects. Frankly, I think she may already be "contaminated" and even with good intentions and her ability, I doubt others would trust her or be willing to deal with her. She has never shown - at least so far - any ability to encompass the wide range of scenarios which may be presented to a Secretary of State.

But... she has many excellent qualities, but perhaps "politics" is not one.
