grants are essentially giving the money so that's redudant as well,
and some of the loans are up to forty years interest free (which once inflation takes it's toll is pretty much giving it away as well).

eveyone knows africa is fucked up but for some reason seems to go ignored i am not saying anything along those lines what i am saying is that its retarted to argue over who gives how much to who in order to make ones self feel better. Valid point broke!! The international effort failed miserably and continues to fail miserably.

It may be that it takes a constant barrage of images on TV screens to let the 2 second retention span work. Tho I'm sure there is a lot more to it than just that.

Africa has been abused, and is still being abused by almost all "western" countries. It's people are the "non people" - the one's who don't matter.

Amidst this shit, there are a number of countries and organizations helping, but nowhere near enough. Others just promise, have photo opportunities and do nothing and more just make stupid comments about "shit countries". Sad shit.. very sad!!!

Thanks ColBigBalls. I guess I'm just paranoid. Seeing all those posts that accused the United States of being cheap and then using this tragedy to benefit ourselves just had me worried. Made me think everybody hated us for some reason. But you're right...the word "hate" was never used. So I guess if I beat the shit out of somebody but I never tell 'em that I "hate" them then it's all good! LOL!

Example Norway is giving 39,50 dollar per person living in Norway wich make Norway the biggest donater per person.
And no I'm not from norway.
For the records, it is not only USA personal that is present, there is other countries too providing help as well

It amazed me how well the UK has been doing in that respect. A couple of days ago non-government help (ie individuals and business) was up to £60 million (just over $100mil) which is a huge amount. Not bad for a small country and I dare say much higher already.

Fuck all the dick waving about donations though. If you want to take it to the Nth degree Blair just announced the UKs funding for help is 'unlimited'. But fuck it means nothing other than a HUGE chunk of the world are helping. After all the recent shit and peoples eagerness to kill each other it restores just a little faith in humanity. Even countries that usually keep out of this sort of thing are helping which is far more important than the amounts.

On the Africa subject though I have to agree. There's shit there happening every year that makes the tsunami almost look small. A shame nobody gives a fuck about them. Half the governments there also make Saddam look like the Pope, but then they don't have huge oil reserves ;)

Why can't we just agree that there is an immense and never before seen effort from most (!) countries to help the victims of this disaster, let it be the US, EU, Canada, Australia or whatever country. There might be a variety of reasons for this but the starving people in Aceh certainly don't care who is saving their lives, as long as the aid comes.

What worries me a lot more is what's going to happen with these huge amounts of moneys that have been promised to be given over the coming years. In a notoriously corrupt country like Indonesia and given the special situation in Aceh where the Indonesian army fights against an independence movement you can bet that large amounts of this money will end up in the pockets of government people and corrupt local bureaucrats.

It's a sad situation - Indonesia is a fascinating country with fantastic people, but only as long as you don't dress them in uniforms...

We, the scandinavians, has given close to $350million + private donations. Its 17 times more than USA per citizen.
Anyway, as you say, its not about who giving what. Its not a contest, who "helped us before", but helping people, many children, in poor countries. The countries should give what they can afford, and of course countries, like the scandinavian ones, should give more because they are richer than the rest.
If some people in some countries are not satisfied with what their governments donate, you have the opportunity to make private donations. It's as simple as that, and this contest "we give more than you" is becoming stupid.
