Thats a huge ammount for a country with about 20 mil population

For the US to match it on a per capita basis they would have to donate about US$8BILLION!! - Thats not a dig at the US BTW... The UK has been even worse

Uhm? Not in the hundreads of millions.. if US spent $1.5 billion a day to help all of the world problems, everyone would love the US, and anyone that would try to attack or terrorize the US would be dealt with by the world quick and hard. Same goes for any other country of course.

Imagine if the world had paid for a warning system for those poorer countries. I can't imagine it would even cost $50 million.

Need to be proactive, not reactive. I think the next few generations will realize this, I hope things won't be so horrible by then.

Not to do comparisons or make one less important than another, but hundreads of thousands died from this, affected many different countries and people of even more nationalities, and the countries and people they did affect are poor compared to the US.

I know Canada mostly gave morale support but more than that would be dumb considering politics wise the US owes us a lot of money from lumber, ridiculous beef restrictions, and other things that breach the Free Trade Agreement. Of course Canada also let the planes land here, mostly Newfoundland, though the US thanked Nova Scotia (...), and spent a lot on increasing security on behalf of the US, well not only Canada, but everyone did.

Lots of countries offered support in terms of professional help firefighters etc. The US did not accept the offers because it felt it could handle the situation itself.

well if it makes them feel good for being the big spender, who cares.. The money is going in the right place..
