Can someone help me get this damn .EXE program off my computer it keeps coming back!

Im running windows 98se don't laugh i hate XP. Anyway i went to the folder and tried to delete it and it says can't delete it might be write protected or some shit. Then go into the registry and delete it and reboot. I check msconfig when i startup and its there again

It says this in msconfig:

Control handler C:\windows\system\z6nkxhd2uzthd.exe

I ran adaware like 3 times too.

Go into safe mode and try deleting it.

Know what you mean tho - find out which domain it came from and blow their heads off - that's the "nice" way :-)

This could be the reason why it won't go away.

Man, how can u still be using 98?

No matter how MUCH u may hate XP, u are screwing yourself over, without XP.

If this is your biz, and u are using out of date tools, than u need to switch. Simple.

As a last resort, attempt to remove it by using HijackThis.

I had somethin' like that a few months ago. I tried adaware, hijackthis, etc. searched thread after thread trying to find a way to get rid of the shit....nothing worked. Eventually I backed up the important info and formatted the drive. Like you, I was running 98SE on that machine and I switched it over to XP Pro with service pack 2. XP sucks at first, but trust me it is sooo much better. Have fun rebooting.

I know that feeling
With me it's the same people calling me frantically that their computer is "messed up" and usually it ends up being the very same thing(s) as the time before. I need to start insisting on payment ('cept from mom, of course)

There are a few things I find annoying about XP but it's been so much more stable than previous Windows. Best upgrade I ever made to my PC.

Check the registry, autoexec and config files for the suspect .exe file and "rem" it out or type a semi-colon at the begining of the line with the .exe file that's giving you drama...

Just my two cents but if you're doing what most of my friends do...STOP downloading free spyware and shit from the internet...!!!!!

Good luck if all else fails use selective backup to backup the drive then fdisk the friggin' harddrive...

I am not familiar with the executable z6nkxhd2uzthd.exe, nor have I seen any variants of (d2uzthd.exe, uzthd.exe, etc) - three possibilities in my eyes: a required app or it's temp file or a malicious app (intrusion of any sort).

- Have you installed any new hardware or software? If yes, uninstall and search for the app.

- Do you know how to access your start-up list of programs? (msconfig)
If yes, do so and either start in interactive mode or simply uncheck all the items on the list and continue to boot. Next perform whatever you have planned.

Adaware is an okay product, but I find Spybot (with most options running, such as TeaTimer.) - you can download it here.

I recommend you install the above; update it; configure the settings; use the tools and run a scan. (After the initial install and reboot it will most likely run a scan before your system runs the start-up group.

goin somewhat
Why 'get with the times' if the new era is worse than the old?

I do not blame you one bit -- I have built most if not all the desktop PCs as well some servers for our company and of all the Microsoft operating systems, 98 SE has given the least amount to problems (not including 3.1 and older). It is on a well used client support box and has been for over five-years.
How I see it; if you are going to say 98 is shit, why stop there ... all MS is shit - go BSD or Linux (such as Lindows).
