I absolutely despise Microsoft, and will not adopt their new OS. After XP, I'm making the switch to Linux.

Loads of features, including the entirely DB based FS got ripped out of longhorn, as far as I know. Microsoft need to get longhorn finished before linux gets up to scratch with XP.

As for me, I decided I'd had enough of Windows a while back and switched to OS X instead, makes my life a lot easier (no crashes, viruses, spyware etc).

I was hoping that Longhorn would have included the new object database architecture, because I'm more than sure it would have been a serious disaster for Microsoft. My feeling is that .net is still far ahead of it's time, and won't fly just yet. They've been having nothing but problems with it, and having mixed its use into their new OS would have certainly added a ton of fuel to the fire as it pissed off more and more SOHO and home users.

I think Longhorn is still just the production name, and not the actual release name.

As for picking it up, I'm going to just say no. Maybe if it wasn't for all that DRM crap, then maybe I would think about it. But so long as that crap is in there, then I'll be going to Linux real fast.

That's not the point, some of that is from 2001, 2002, 2003 and right up to present. The point is, it gives you a window into Microsoft and how they do business. It also offers some valuable insight on what you can expect in the future should you travel down that road..

funny you say that, I've yet to crash XP, that includes the times I import 1000 1.4 mb files into photoshop at a time while surfing the net and chatting on IM's.

But I've crashed Red Hat several times recently.

I would bet on it being called Windows 64, longhorn is the production name as stated.

OS-x is unix based and has long been ported off macs.
