goldfish help!?
Since getting a couple new fish, my goldfish just stay in the corner all the time. Unless I walk by, then they come to the surface looking for food. Otherwise they don't swim or anything. Just huddle in the corner...that can't be good.
Anyone know what I should do? ![]() |

If I were a fish in a 24" x 12" tank I'd be pissed off huddling in a corner talking shit about you too.

Hal,
The Plecos are probably sucking on the g'fish when you're not looking. Plecos are good for clean-up duty in tanks with more aggressive fish. But they're just too gnarly to keep with these painted, lisping dandies. LOL. j-

You should ask this question on a fishkeeping message board. Most likely water in your tank is quite cold. That is what makes gold fish letargic. try http://www.aquahobby.com/board/index.php |

They probably got the habit of hiding in the corner from living in a pet shop and seeing their free swimming friends end up in a net and taken away.
Come to think of it, that is what happened to them too. |

I would say its most like the temperature or some other water condition as well... I don't see any other fish in there besides the algae eater... and they aren't agressive.... If they were trying to hide they would do so in the upper rear corners of the tank behind the carbon filters of the riser tubes.

well, I added some large rocks with holes/tunnels. And I stopped urinating in the tank. We'll see if that helps.

Just make sure the temp of the tank stays in a constant range and that you don't over feed them and also maybe put something in the center of the tank to lure them to the middle...

I'd get more stuff for them, so they know if you ever introduce a shark or something that they can hide out. I'm seeing pink castles or fake pink plants . . .

Some funny shit in this thread.
1- Goldfish like cold water. So thats not a problem. If there are huge fluctuations in the water temp that may bother them but those fish are pretty hardy and can tolerate that. 2- the pleco wont bother the gold fish. Your most probable problem is a water quality problem caused by adding additional bio load to the tank. I don't know the size of the tank but it looks pretty small. Adding a pleco to that tank may have caused an imbalance. Check your ammonia and nitrite (nitrite not nitrate) levels. If they are spiked a simple 25% water change may help in the meantime while the filter adjusts to the increased bio load. If not you may have to reduce the number of fish or get a bigger tank. Gold fish are pretty dirty. Change the water on a regular basis.

Did ya let the tank go through it's "bacteria load cycle" before putting them in? Goldfish are pretty resiliant . . . this may or may not be a factor . . .
As far as the bio load Furious_Male mentioned, I don't think that's a factor. Looks like about a 20 gallon tank, in which case six fish shouldn't be a problem. Mind you, seven and they all die!! ![]()

Since your tank is new, it's not fully cycled.
http://www.kokosgoldfish.com/care.html http://www.goldfishparadise.com/ That pleco will not attack your goldfish until it gets much bigger. The type of goldfish that you are keeping are common comets. They can live up to 20 years if you keep them properly. Don't over feed and do 20% water changes every week.
