NITCH sounds like something I do while shaving. As in "OUCH look at this fucking huge NITCH in my face I made with this cheap ass razor blade!"

escorpio 12-21-2004 04:34 AM

It's pronounced NITCH, you god damn foreigners!

Tipsy 12-21-2004 05:03 AM

The CORRECT pronunciation remains 'neesh'. Taking something and bastardizing it doesn't suddenly make it correct. But then WTF - it was done with much of the rest of the English language so why stop at yet another word?

And yep - stolen off the French which only goes to prove how it should be pronounced. :)

escorpio 12-21-2004 05:05 AM

So it's "neesh" if you want to talk like a French nancy-boy or "nitch" if you want to sound like a tough, rugged American. The choice is yours.

According to several dictionary sources, NITCH is the most common pronunciation (because it is listed first).

I pronounce it as NITCH, while foreigners or canucks pronounce it as NEESH.

Strange.

mardigras 12-21-2004 05:14 AM

I guess there's an abundance of "self lothing closted fag who is also a retard"s around:glugglug

Apparently, you do not know the English language too well.

the "ch" is generally pronounced like a "itch" sound.

Yes, but notice there is a "T" in "itch". Not in niche.

That's why we pronounce stitch as stitch. But mustache is pronounced mustash rather than mustitch.

Well I guess if you have and ICHE to call it NITCH then HICHE your BICHE ass on the horse you rode in on and go on. And please do not PICHE a fit over this and DICHE any civility you have by acting like a WICHE. Hopefully this won't tear the board part otherwise we'll have to STICHE it back together somehow.

It's originally a french word. It's pronounced Neesh. Period.

Drake 12-21-2004 05:46 AM

When a 'che' is at the END of a word it's usually pronounced "sh". For instance mustache.

When a 'che' is at the BEGINNING of a word it's usually prounounced "ch' as in chestnut.

When a 'tch' is at the END of a word it's usually pronounced 'ch' as in pitch.

It's niche, not nitch, so it would be pronounced NEESH, if spoken 'correctly'.
