Nice find. I think the English rule is that in this case if the che follows a vowel it will be 'sh'. Like Douche is doosh because the che is followed by 'U' which is a vowel.

It's not the case in avalanche and psyche. Remember 'Y' is sometimes a vowel (a,e,i,o,u, and sometimes y). In this case I don't think the 'y' is considered a voewel. Nor is N a vowel. And that's why they're pronounced differently. Psyche sounds like Sike and Avalanche sounds like avalanch.

It's niche, not nitch. Those who pronounce it as "nitch" should be thrown in jail for raping language :2 cents:

Yep everything you said here is correct. But colour and color are more interchangeable and not as much of a gaffe as substituting "nitch" for "neesh" because the letter 'U' in both cases follows from a consinent and is therefore not pronounced.

For instance in camouflage, you don't hear the 'U' because it follows the letter 'O'. It's camoflage, not camUflage even though there is a U in it.

By "consinent" I meant "consonant". Poor spelling again.

Start with the people at Mirriam Webster, they say pronouncing it as "nitch" is proper.

We have a great sense of irony. Like how funny it is when another anti-American dumbass tries to prove how smart he is posting moronic shit like this.

"My point prooved perfectly. Someone put the stupid stick down, its not a game anymore."

btw - welcome to the board. You're doing a GREAT job promoting your program! This board REALLY needed another pseudo-intelluctual anti-American dipshit.
