What's the prerequisite for a french soldier to be promoted to general?

He must learn to surrender in 10 different languages.

And no, if you you must know, I'm not an American and French is my first language. You just have to look at things with a sense of humor every now and then.

Keeping that in mind, I'm off to treat my Jewish friend to a burger and milkshake
