As I read this thread I thought you would be crazy not to take it until I read this. Moving is a pain in the ass and it costs a lot. Why move in and probably really like the place just to have to leave and do it all over.

If Oregon is that cheap and you like living there, you'll find something else.

If you move to Salem be sure to buy a gun, because you're gonna want to stick in in your mouth and pull the trigger within a month.

1100 is dirt cheap. You can get a decent 1 bedroom or shitty 2 bedroom apt around here for that much usually.

Thats insane. I'm looking at moving to a different buidling, and all the 1 bedroom apartments are like $1100+ (and they're not even that nice, hardwood floors, 20 yr old building, etc).

That would depend on the future value of the house completely.
When you expect it might go down its far better to rent.

indeed it is , renting something for more than $650 is dumb !

you are better off renting some cheap appartement now till you can afford to BUY a house

that house is 350K if you make a decent living ( at least 10k a month) you should be able to save up $6500 a month, after only three years of saving you would have like 234K and enough to buy the house with a reasonable small loan

Nice looking house, and $1,100.00 is like nothing. But since it's to only rent until the owner sells, then don't waste your time, IMO

I totally agree. If you can spend $1,100 a month on rent, why not invest it in something that you'll eventually own? It doesn't seem like much when you're young, but one day you'll wake up in your 40's/50's and kick yourself for not investing in somethng that lasts a lifetime.

Damn, you can't get indoor plumbing for 1100 a month down here. Too bad you can't do a lease with an option to purchase on the house --

Renting isn't always a bad deal, I'm not sure why people think it is automatically. What you pay in rent, versus what you'd pay in mortgage, tax and insurance, to live in a particular area doesn't always make renting a bad deal. And if you live in an area where the real estate prices are volatile, or the market is nearing a bubble burst or other downward factors, you can sometimes be just as well off renting as you would buying.

never true in the long run

if you pay $1000 in rent for 20 years , you have nothing

if you pay $1500 in mortgage tax and insurance for 20 years you will have SOMETHING even if your property has lost value
