I consider a car a basic need, I guess I could scale down if the need be. but say im getting rid of home phone and getting rid of gym membership, so minus $575. That's still $2000. I thought about it after I posted and I guess some of these people must be renting rooms in a house to be able to pay like $300 in rent, either that or they live in a tiny town where real estate is practically free.

In Kokomo, Indiana my wife and I live a decent life on around 2500/month, and that is with 2 babies. Give or take 500-800/month depending on how things are going for me and if she takes a some time off from work.
Our exoenses look like this

mortgage: 350/month (70k$ house, owe around 47k on it, put about 20k down when I bought it, back when money was flowing, 1400 square ft house, 2BR, living room, family room, dinning room, 1 BA, and kitchen, ya its a small house but its not like I am living in a hut

car payment: 100$. Right now I got 3 vehicles, all are old, but all of them run great. 2 of them are paid off, and the third one we are only paying 100$/month on.

gas: around 200/month

Car insurance: 110/month

Utilities: 100/month electric, gas (can get up to 200/month in the winter) average is around 100/month, cable and internet 90/month, phone 30/month, water 30/month
Total Utilities around 350/month

That right there is just over 1100/month, that gives us an easy 300/week for food, diapers, formula, and to do stuff on. Its not the easiest or most fun lifestyle, but its certainly not too awful bad

lol, nah, I know, but if I was cutting down on monthly expenses I guess the best way to do that would be to buy a beater for a couple grand and spend nothing monthly. But $500 a month isn't THAT much for a car man. It's an Infiniti QX4, but I got some buddies with beamers and mercedes who are paying $700+ for their lease.

With rent truck and insurance and everything 1400$ per month.

The rest goes into savings or investment.

The big difference is the house. share apt $300 to nice house $4k.
Because all the shit that goes with the bigger house is more. More water, lights, maid , yard service etc..

House 2k
car 1k
kids 2k
util 1k
travel 2k
stuff 2k

TOTAL 10k

small house and love to leave it.

damm I hate to think that really with no extravagent spending my bottom line is about 5.5k a month to cover the bare bones basics...and that's with NO credit card debt...

I really wish there was a way to drop that number significantly, I guess I need to work on paying off one of the cars, that shit adds up with insurance and gas (that was figured into the bottom line of course)...
