Serious I wouldn't set any port open.
I use ZoneAlarm Pro and don't believe that I've ever got any pop up about GFY has it done it any more? Jim |

here's a Whois
RCS Internet (NETBLK-RCSINTERNET) PO Box 969 Roseville, CA 95678 US Netname: RCSINTERNET Netblock: 66.60.128.0 - 66.60.191.255 Maintainer: RCSI Coordinator: RCS Internet (ZR32-ARIN) [email protected] 916.772.7383 Domain System inverse mapping provided by: NS1.RCSIS.COM 208.45.228.3 NS2.RCSIS.COM 208.45.228.4 ADDRESSES WITHIN THIS BLOCK ARE NON-PORTABLE Record last updated on 17-Jan-2001. Database last updated on 22-Sep-2001 23:15:09 EDT. Don't know if that's GFY or not? And I gave a serious answer, I would not leave any port open, should have added that should not be open. Futher more they have not answered my question. Has it happened any more? I'm going to guess that this is just an error since I can not think of any reason for this server to try to netbios you (unless it has been cracked into). ------------------ Pay-As-You-Go Hosting FREE Trial! Below $.90/GB Dedicated Hosting EnergyHosting - Energizing your business |

Don't sweat it, sometimes sites send back that info, specially sites that are on a bigger network or have round robin capabilities or such stuff, it's just a matter of technicalities.
Don't think that every alert on your firewall is someone poking at your ports, I get over 200 alerts per day (some times more). The advantage of Zonealarm is that you're invisible, the alert means that a port received a request and swallowed it, giving no response back. I'm sure that there must be some way to hack it, but it's probably the safer you can be against any hacking attack other than unplugging from the net... ------------------ Phat Sites Need Phat Hosting Get PHAT And Now You can Get even Phatter! The Netbios ports are used by Windows for file and printer sharing. Any machine on the internet with port 137-139 open, which has shared folders, are open for everyone. Be sure to shut down those ports in your router, or tell your firewall to block them from all outside IP addresses.
Many amateur hackers use programs to scan the internet for machines with open netbios ports. Why gofuckyourself.com scans or tries to connect, I have no idea. |

Jokes should be left in the jokes posts, and the serious posts should stay serious. My input, for all it's worth: I have a firewall, and it has never complained about GFY to me. |

I have an even better response.
Please go visit: www.grc.com and go to the 'Sheilds Up' section of their pages. It should be on the 2nd page after the main entrance page. Once you're there, read, read and read. Try the 'test my shields' and 'probe my ports'. Very interesting shit. Make sure you read. [This message has been edited by Juge (edited 09-24-2001).] |

Why not spend a little green, get yourself a Linksys router with a real firewall and close all the ports you don't need for something specific? Problem solved.

Attempting connection to your computer. . . Shields UP! is now attempting to contact the Hidden Internet Server within your PC. It is likely that no one has told you that your own personal computer may now be functioning as an Internet Server with neither your knowledge nor your permission. And that it may be serving up all or many of your personal files for reading, writing, modification and even deletion by anyone, anywhere, on the Internet! Please Note: On highly secure systems this may take up to one minute. . . Your Internet port 139 does not appear to exist! One or more ports on this system are operating in FULL STEALTH MODE! Standard Internet behavior requires port connection attempts to be answered with a success or refusal response. Therefore, only an attempt to connect to a nonexistent computer results in no response of either kind. But YOUR computer has DELIBERATELY CHOSEN NOT TO RESPOND (that's very cool!) which represents advanced computer and port stealthing capabilities. A machine configured in this fashion is well hardened to Internet NetBIOS attack and intrusion. Unable to connect with NetBIOS to your computer. All attempts to get any information from your computer have FAILED. (This is very uncommon for a Windows networking-based PC.) Relative to vulnerabilities from Windows networking, this computer appears to be VERY SECURE since it is NOT exposing ANY of its internal NetBIOS networking protocol over the Internet. Ain't nobody gettin' in this bitch without my knowledge. (but then I already knew that.) |

![]() For anyone WITHOUT a firewall, www.grc.com has a VERY interesting response to it's hack attempts into your computer (note: it doesnt hack to damage data, just to test your security) |
