Critique my design (mainstream)

The current design is: www.healthygo.com

The new design is: www.healthygo.com/new.htm

What do you think about the new design, does it let you know exactly what the service is easily? Is it too wordy? What are your opinions / suggestions.

I'm trying to make it as appealing, user-friendly and understandable as possible.

One thing I do know I need to improve is the pictures, but those before & after pictures seem to be impossible to find, as this is a new service and don't have my own yet.

Thanks!

2nd one is better and more easy on the eyes. I like your mainstream site, comparable to mine. Good job

Very nice designs!

I sort of like the first one better but not by much. Both are outstanding designs and it's hard to pick. If you could somehow fuse the two together (the red really jumps out) it would be spectacular.

They both look professional and clean.

thanks for the comments. it's a lot more than the "appearence". making shit convert in mainstream as i've come to learn is a pretty specific process. you really need to situate the layout in a logical manner, and the way in which you choose to present the service is something that is difficult to get right on the first try.

i'm learning though

You don't know how true that is! Not only do you have to lead a horse to water but you have to force that mofo to drink! It's all about logical progression when it comes to selling any product online. Give a sample, lead them on with a brief description and why they need it, and then put in a :BUY NOW: button. If they choose not to purchase the product then we are forced to make them feel bad and remind them as to why they need it.

Damn, I've been in mainstream wayyyyy too long!

my main approach concerning that, is the free physical exam. since most of the visitors are probably "out of shape" it will give them their BMI/BMR/BF% and tell them that they're at high risk for serious medical conditions. then lead 'em to a tour/signup page.

You are no stranger to suggestive selling and generating strong leads. You'll do fine and your site will rock regardless of the design!

I wish you nothing but the best.

By the way, I'm quite the workout enthusiast myself and was a personal trainer for many years in Miami (got me through college, God bless it). I have written articles in the past on the do's and dont's of working out and dieting.

If you need some articles for your site then I'm sure I can dig them up. Email me at rob AT acidflyers DOT com and I'd be more than happy to send them over.

Very nice, very clean both of them. I´d try to mix the tab-design of number 2 with number one...

Both versions are a trainwreck, but I like the potential of the first one. It needs work, but I'd stick with it.

A very big problem is that both versions fail to get across fast enough exactly what the site is. You don't have long before someone glances at the page and then leaves if the concept doesn't catch their eye.

Right at the top in clear letters you need to have something like "Talk to certified fitness trainers online." That would establish exactly what's going on 2 seconds after the page loads.

Also...

- Your use of the Healthy Go term is minimal, and the logo is even tiny (135x36) at the top. If your goal is impulse buyers, fine. If you want them to come back, they need to remember where they were. Increase the size of the logo a great deal, and use the term more often.

- Filling out the "free physical analysis" appears to be required before surfers are even presented with the entire sales pitch (best one being on the signup page). Bad, bad move. Every fitness site has one of these body mass index type things, and you need to take into account that the surfer simply may not want to fill another one out. This just adds to the mental cost of the site.

- The screen shots are worthless since they are so tiny and nothing can be seen in them.

- You ask for routing number and account number for check payments without the check graphic that every other site uses since some people don't exactly know where these numbers are located.

There's other things too, but overall the actual concept is good. Just keep at it. It'll work eventually....

thanks for the comments.

why exactly though do you like the first one better? is it purely on account of the wording?

i think the new design is clearly better as far as appearence is concerned, and i can easily modify the wording/approach.

and yeah as far as that old design is concerned with the join page n' all, i'm trashing that.

My problem with the second one is that there's so much regular text crammed together. Whereas the first one makes better use of colors, varying text sizes, spacing, etc...

The content is better on the second one, but I personally don't like how it's being presented visually.

Combining aspects of the two is another idea.
