What virus is it Dude ??

Symantec's STEP BY STEP removal instructions DO WORK ... but you have to follow them to a TEE !!

Trust me on this one ... I have had 2 trojans, a worm and 3 virii in the past 12 months ... and never reformatted yet ... and I am not a techie whiz kid either ... just alot of preserverance ... if you don't have a CD burner, send as much as you can to your FTP before you reformat, if that is the route you choose ... hit me up if you need a temporary FTP dump ....

One thing I've noticed when working with Norton, is AFTER you run Live Update, and it asks you to reboot the computer - DON'T REBOOT THE COMPUTER. The fucking program liveupdate is done, yet, and the fucking new virus data files aren't installed until it is. In fact, select 'no' to rebooting the computer, and make sure all norton live update windows have disappeared (they may ask you a question before they disappear - but that may just be for the 1st time it's run - otherwise it will eventually close on it's own). Once there's no more windows open (i.e. none shown in the task bar or whatever you called it at the bottom of the screen), THEN you can reboot your machine.

The first time I ran this, I let the machine reboot on it's own, it caused a window 'live update not responded' as it tried to shut it down (since it was still running), so i decided to let it wait, and close on it's own - which i thought it did, and I waited 2 fucking hours for the virus scanner to scan through all my infected files while it didn't find a thing.

The 2nd time, I followed the advice that I'm now giving you, and it works.

Hope this helps.

Take a break Mick. Then go back after doing something else for abit. Norton has been the best since he first put it on my system back in 94. Its never let us down. But like some of the others have said its a little quirky. Actually its problems interfacing with Windows that causes the quirks. Windows gives out bits of source code to the third party coders and then have a habit of changing it!

So until the coders can work out the problems to interface to the changed Wincode, it will balk a little. They are pretty quick tho. Also set your live update to check every few days to catch rapid releases for virii and whatnot. (new op or norton gets released--check daily) Its well worth the 30 secs to tell it to look.

Well, if you haven't already read about it in another topic I started, Macfee GAVE ME the fucking Nimda worm... I found and corrected several effects of the virus and actually stopped it from spreading to other files myself, and then serached the web for a fix. Mcafee's webpage had nothing, but Norton had a write up on it about the exact effects that I had fixed, so I borrow a copied of Norton, cleaned the system, then ran Macfee's update, and norton warned me about the virus being downloaded from macfee's website... imagine that. I gotta email those idiots about it. It cost me a whole fucking day to repair my system from this shit, and I will probably have to reinstall everything to ensure it's gone. I had all security patches installed to prevent this virus from installing itself, and I'm not a moron to clicks and runs attachments - the one place I NEVER scan files for viruses - mcafee - is the place I got it from. I was actually updated it to be sure that my system would catch it, IF it I were to come across it. Ironic, is it?
