Tragic, and terrifying. It's amazing that more people now hate Bush than hate Osama, and that doesn't really make many Americans think. Sure, there is no way I can support his 9/11 activity, but no question there are many serious problems underlying those actions and which some nations, even now, remain in a state of denial over.

The US govt know (or I sure as hell hope they know!!) exactly what has happened to cultivate Osama's "terrorism". After all, they were the major beneficaries of much and Osama is well known to them as a friend in the past.

They also may have taken the time to translate his statement - perhaps even understand it.

I remember, a short time after 9/11, speaking with an US intell person. It gave a clue that there was actually some more rational people left in the US :-)

Not that it was likely to happen, but this person really wanted to do an informal "interrogation" of Osama - a casual chat, treat the man with respect, and try and hear what he was really like and understand why he thought it a good idea to blow people up.

Understanding and educating on the way of others is at least a first step to some peaceful times and not a load of simplistic, "us", "them", "crap countries", "bring em on" and "evil people" stuff.

Last point - can anyone ever name one terrorist organization in the history of this world where the resolution ever came from anything other than peaceful negotiation at the end of the day?

History has much to offer to a few people yet :-)

I think it's interesting that he implies Bush retains power through rigging elections. I do however think the message gets a little fuzzy when he talks about how Bush listened to the girl talk about a goat. That really doesn't have much to do with anything and it comes off as making fun of him. The message loses a little crediblity there.

There's no doubt that he is not a stupid person, but the whole idea of innocents dying in retaliation of dead innocents isn't an intellectual concept.

The problem is when we and the rest of the world are energy independent the middle east will once again become an economic backwater with a large, uneducated, impoverished population. A breeding ground for terror.

When you look at regional history over last 2000 years you will realize that oil plays a tiny part in the equation. Yes it's a cash crop right now, but conflict in the region has been raging way before oil had the kind of economic significance it does now. This conflict will continue well beyond energy independence from oil.

You are correct in part. The actual tensions between muslim and jews is actually a product of the 20th century. Jews and muslims lived together in harmony throughout most of the past 2000 years. The current situation started after WW2 when palestine was partitioned and no other country in the world wanted the refugees of hitlers extermination camps.

Oil is the ONLY reason the US cares more about the middle east than it does about Rhowanda or Sudan. Our government would be hard pressed to explain the death of one soldier in Sudan and like Rhowanda before it there is a genocide in process. If there was oil we would already have been "educated" as to need to be there with force to protect the indiginous people.

Jews and muslims lived together in harmony throughout most of the past 2000 years. The current situation started after WW2 when palestine was partitioned and no other country in the world wanted the refugees of hitlers extermination camps. Oil is the ONLY reason the US cares more about the middle east than it does about Rhowanda or Sudan. Our government would be hard pressed to explain the death of one soldier in Sudan and like Rhowanda before it there is a genocide in process. If there was oil we would already have been "educated" as to need to be there with force to protect the indiginous people. Wake up folks you are programmed in school. Stop and think about the history you are taught. Manifest Destiny? God's will that all Native American's be exterminated?
