He is no fool and not everything he said is wrong. Like any master of propaganda it is a mix of truth and fiction. The interesting weave is the Bush Sr and Jr. I despise GW but that is just propaganda. The attack and others were planned before GW was elected and had nothing to do with him.
The reality is Islamic fundementalism and American economic imperialism are not compatible. There are fundamentalists in all religions and in all religions they are intolerant of others, but they are small minorities.
The unresolved tensions between Israel and arab world are also just a sham for the polarization of the cultures. He is closer to the truth when he discusses oil. As long as we need oil we need to control oil producers.
As long as Arab television shows US troops killing brother arabs there will be no shortage of recruits to carry on suicide bombings.
The only resolution is energy independence, lack of military involvement and trying to educate the youth. The problem is when we and the rest of the world are energy independent the middle east will once again become an economic backwater with a large, uneducated, impoverished population. A breeding ground for terror.
There are no easy solutions for anyone.

When you look at regional history over last 2000 years you will realize that oil plays a tiny part in the equation. Yes it's a cash crop right now, but conflict in the region has been raging way before oil had the kind of economic significance it does now. This conflict will continue well beyond energy independence from oil.
