Man this kids going to get into shit for this one. Just showed it on CNN. Wounded militant laying with his back against the wall. You can here the soldiers saying he's faking being dead and he's still breathing. He then walks up and shoots him in the head. Stupid kid should of told the fucker with the camera to turn it off first.

I was watching CNN when they played this, and though they went to black-screen before the moment of execution, they continued with the audio.

Them story was as follows:

US soldiers had on a previous day secured a Mosque, which was now occupied by wounded Iraqis. It was not made clear if these were wounded civilians or wounded rebels. A new group of soldiers arrived and, based on their recorded conversation, did not seem to know exactly who these wounded people were either; in the video they appeared in very bad shape; the iraqi guy in the foreground looked elderly. There was no movement. The US soldiers are inspecting them as they lay on the floor, when one of the soldiers suddenly calls out that he suspects an iraqi of "playing dead" ("he's still breathing!") and empties his machine gun into him. It was unsual, and there was no obvious explaination for it.

News... that is murder in a civilian situation and a war crime otherwise.

This is not some "exclusive" - there are plenty more images to be released yet. The majority don't look good.

Who knows - given a chance the Pentagon will lie either way.

But if that has a grain of truth - it's even worse and worthy of a real trial, - not some US military court bs.

There are plenty images that have not been released yet involving prior operations, - I've seen some from months back. It will be more than hard for the Pentagon to deny what is staring them in the face.

It is not acceptable conduct to stuff a bullet in the brain of any prisoner.

There are possible situations where immediate action is needed in self-defense. This is clearly not such a situation.

To clarify before the below, I'm not one of those people against the war who think the US is 'evil' and all our soldiers are 'baby killers', etc. I hate that shit. Blaming the soldiers has always been petty in my mind, as well as factually ridiculous. They don't call the shots, and do the best they can to survive.

However... the entire point of creating a code of conduct for civilized nations is to differentiate us from them. If you think we should look to the terrorists to set the example, then you need to rethink things, IMO.

I personally plan to wait until all the facts are out before passing judgement on this kid. We weren't there, and we don't know. BUT - if it ends up that he shot someone without a weapon, who posed no threat, then I'm afraid I would have no problem with him being in trouble.

We're not barbarians, and it's not a free for all. We don't behead captives, and we don't shoot unarmed, injured combatants. Why? Because we're better than that, and hold ourselves up to a higher standard, period. What the other side does is not our barometer of acceptable response.

The fact is, it is a very small element who do stuff like beheading, and they deserve to be tried and executed themselves.

The rest of the "fighters", whether on the Iraqi side or the US forces, conduct themselves as best they can.

Both sides claim to be fighting for a cause, - some have more just causes than others, - but there never was an "excuse" for war crimes on either side.

Nicely said. This is pretty much how I feel about it. Also it should be said that soldiers are trained killers. The responsibly of sending them to kill is the big question. When we send our soldiers to kill it should be with good reason. So it all kinda comes full circle to the people that decided to send them. If this soldier executed a defenseless person he'll be brought to trial.
