Logo Criticism Please - For My New Company.

As most of you know, my primary business is printing and design. Well I've decided to embark on a new venture; marketing. I have selected Hooklight Marketing Solutions as my company name. I am still working on getting my website up and running but came up with this logo.

Please give me constructive criticism as I am shooting to be as successful in Marketing as I have been in printing.

I like it a lot.

Clean up the white stroke outside the light (it's a bit thick towards the top-left base).

Looks pretty good, however seems a little bright when I first look at it (where it hurts my eyes a bit)....then again I'm a creature of the night

Good call, perhaps a slightly darker shade of blue.

the idea/concept is good, but i don't like the look... the lamp looks like it's floating in the air.. i don't like the stroke... when designing a logo (most important thing) you have to put yourself in the shoes of the person who is looking for that buisness for help...

in this case, you are a marketing company.... define to yourself what marketing is... you are there to help a company grow and sell their product, or whatever it is they need... your logo should be solid, confident, and have a profitable look.

the floating lamp gives the feeling of unstability and not seriousness... make is more corporate and less 'pixar'-ish.... name is good, but there are many ways of expressing 'light'

i hope you're not pissed... you know me.. i'm straight forward and honest... hit me up, i'll help you with it

I darkened the blue and reduced the "noise". Is this better?

The light effect on the black text shouldn't turn it red, should simply be lighter. Looks great though otherwise.

I like this one better. Still some extra white spots on the light.

My own personal preference, but you may want to space the letters out just a bit so there's 1-2px between each. Right now the stroke of the letters run into one another.

You know me, Al. I like it straight forward and honest, just like I give my opinions you to.

I love the name...it's catchy and full of possible gimmicks. I can work more on the logo but I actually like this one because it gives the look of "burning the midnight oil" so one of my catch phrase ideas was "Let us burn YOUR midnight oil for you..."

I'll hit you up on Monday for more of your insight.

Words of harsh criticism:

1.) Personally, the logo doesn't convey a sense of professionalism. Not only is it the overly used "Impact" font, but the general "cartoonish" feel of the logo is a turn-off. Bottom line: Ditch that font and use a more distinguished and unique one.

2.) The base of the lamp doesn't seem to flow well with the text because it's merely connected to "nothing". I think it'd look better if the base were at the bottom, rather than having it hanging from the top.

3.) Ditch the stroke effect-- It doesn't flow well with the "Marketing Solutions" text that doesn't have any effects applied to it.

Edit: Seems like abyss and I have correlating opinions.

i see what you're going for... the problem is, when you desing a logo, what you just explained to me should be described within the logo... the person looking at it doesn't necessarily have to see it immediately but should understand it before losing their attention

cool... hit me up monday

Dump the lamp. Nothing should be covering up your company's name.
Youre trying to be cute with the lamp but it looks cheesy and unprofessional. Less is more.

It says Hooklight but the lamp makes me think of Booklight.

HighonAcid, those are some pretty impressive prices on your website. Do you guys offer a sample package so I can view some of the quality?

I like the top one of the two above, and it evokes some of the PIXAR logo imagery which may or may not be a good thing.

simpler the better - this one without the lamp is the best. anytime u just take an object and place it next to a text logo it looks cheesey - a really good logo designer can work an object to be an intrinsic part of the logo.

LOL, I think this is the new method of doing a sublime logo contest.

You post a logo saying "hey what do you guys think?", and then inevitably all the design guru's jump in and start posting away.

This is the design police.

Please uninstall your illegal copy of Photoshop and step away from the computer.

No offense, but that's just awful.

My only suggestion, would to make sure the logo will work in most all media. From stationary, to ad specialties... And keep in mind the costs of creating it in all these medias. I like the black one on the bottom of digifan samples... But on the other hand I feel it needs some type of script text in it. Don't forget the ladies, who I bet you will be working a lot with...

Good luck,
