2001 Camaro SS vs Corvette 2001 Both Stock

Which one would be faster?

Better?

Easier to Mod?

Same engine right?

Stock? The vette, since it is lighter.

in 01-02, the Camaro and the vette both got the LS6 intake manifold. Think the exhaust manifold on the vettes are a little better flowing too.

Although all in all, with a good driver, the Camaro could win. Think in a stock form race, driver skill would play a big part.

I owned a 2000 Camaro SS and then a 2003 Corvette.

Same engine, yes. The Camaro is much heavier, and you can feel it in the driving. The parts, while mostly interchangable, are signifigantly more expensive for the Corvette, because of the name.

Having owned both, let me tell you: Get the Corvette, hands down.

The Vette is lighter and some 30+ horsepower more, too. The Vette would win hands down.

Actually the engines were the same in both cars. GM also underrated the LS1 in both cars too. On dynos of 01-02, people typically get 300-345 RWHP. Vette, or Camaro.

The "330" HP rating for the Corvette, and the "305" for the camaro, was supposed to be flywheel HP, not rear wheel HP. So these engines tend to produce 15-18% or so more power then they were factory rated at.

I've owned both cars each for a period of more than one year. I modified my Camaro myself and am pretty familiar with the LS1. I have personal, first hand experience. The Vette, is hands down faster.

The Corvette and Camaro both use the LS1, but the Corvette LS1 is slightly better tuned. It does put out more power.

The additional 20 horsepower the Camaro SS was supposed to have was difficult or impossible to measure on a dyno because it relied on the ram air system. Since the car is not moving on a Dyno, no air is being rammed. Some people tried to counter this with fans, but with little success.
Neither are measured as flywheel horsepower. They're both measurements of "Gross Horsepower" which is slightly different.

The 'Vette would win. It's lighter.

I have an '02 Camaro SS that put down 322.7 RWHP.

That's damn fast, but a 'Vette of the same year will take me 'cause the camaro weighs more.

Older vettes though, I could take. They don't put out much.

Subtle differences like exhaust add to the extra horsepower in the Corvette. For instance, a Camaro SS has one single exhaust line split in to two. The Corvette has a true dual exhaust.
