New Nikon D70 with SB800 Speedlight

Well, here's some shots with my new camera and sweetass speedlight. I thought you might like a few peeks!

I'm still reading through the 160 page manual for the D70, so any tips or tricks are welcome, if anyone else has a similar camera! Enjoy!

Yep, I got the kit with the lens and then the speedlight separately. Woohoo!

That lens is good, should be all you need unless you want longer telephoto.

Elli, you rock Have fun with your new hardware. Feel free to post pics as you practice and learn how to use the equipment

Appreciate any tid-bits you learn along the way. Maybe you could talk some of the GFY content gurus into some private lessons.

damn, they're kinda washed out for such a flash :/

you should try fliddling w/ the ETTL on that, and make sure its metering off your fleshtones

Most top end speedlites (550ex, 580ex on the canon range) have a diffuser, and can tilt up to make catchlights, and get rid of the evil flash shadows

For us amateurs.

She was in a room it appeared. Bounce the light off the ceiling (assume it is white). That solves a lot of issues.

Actually I took a course on the D70 that was offered through one of the local photography schools provided by Henry's, and I learned a TON more than is even available in the manual... If you have questions or want tips and tricks, you can icq me for more info, Elli. 3522039.

Wow, thanks for the tips everybody!! I am still experimenting with everything, so I'll keep you updated on how my quest goes

PS: Yes, I was in a room with a beige/taupe wall behind me. I had a 500w blue light aimed from the side, to cut the dark across the mid-high area (which is why the light fell off at my knees so drastically). The flash was bouncing off the ceiling, but I backed up against the wall so far that it didn't get to light up the space behind me at all. And yes, I was using the little plastic diffuser that came with the speedlight, but it wasn't one of those velcro mini softboxes. Still need to get one of those.

Try to get the extension cable for the flash... then you'll be able to move the flash away from the camera.

I use a wireless transmitter and receiver...........and it works great, or you can try moving the flash further away using a strobal frame (sp).
