but on this sub-topic: in addition to the attacks already mentioned, any attack on the US abroad (the Cole, embassies, hostage situations, etc) should be considered as an attack on the US. These acts total many more than 3. |

As a U.S. Citizen, if I were in Italy and they had a similar attack, I would gladly pitch in a helping hand just as I would have if I had been in NYC back then. Would that make me proud to be Italian or any other nationality? No. It would make me proud of the accomplishments and nothing more. By your logic, only American citizens have the right to be proud of 9/11. Do you have any idea how many non-Americans were in NYC that day? How many of them helped out? What if they were Saudi? I suppose it would then be fair to say that they should be proud to be Saudi because of what they did on 9/11. No? |

LOL you think I don't know that. My post was in response to the guy who feels safer IN America because there haven't been attacks since 9/11...when we all know that American's are being attacked daily now in Iraq...terrorism has increased world wide...the world is a much more dangerous place because of Bush. But he feels safer because there hasn't been an attack on our soil in the last 3 years. |

Ya know what? It's an endless cycle. We are all human and love to bitch. I could come back at you with 'Yea, and you thinking that makes you just like all of the other sheep that can't get it through their heads that America IS the greatest, most free, prosperous and coolest place to live on earth but just can't help but bitch' I hear constant bitching about all of the problems, how bad things are, and all of that bullshit. But tell me, personally, what has Bush done to you that affects your life and your family? He surely hasn't done anything to mine. When we made the decision to go to Iraq it was based on intelligence that basically the entire world agreed on. A lot of the ass suckers who want to be diplomatic and talk about it, or had monetary interests in Iraq (Germany, France, Russia) were totally anti-war, but even those countries had intelligence that is now public that says that they could have almost for 100% certain said that Iraq had WMD's. Now, we're there, there have been no WMD's found, and NOW intelligence says there may not have ever been any. Hindsight is 20/20 .. but b4 we ever stepped foot into Iraq we did not know that. If I could hit rewind, sit down the day b4 we went into Iraq and discussed strategy with Kerry on what should be done, I HIGHLY doubt that Kerry would have had much more insight into the situation than Bush did. In my heart I feel that our government did what was in *THE UNITED STATES* best interest, not of the worlds, but of ours. Although now it turns out that maybe it could have been avoidable, at the time most of our country felt that the war was a necessity. I rambled, I'm sorry. |

I am proud of the fact that over the years there are people who can see the bigger picture and will enlist and fight for the freedoms that were earned so many years ago. I am proud of the fact that even though some may think that servicemen are just brainwashed kids, that they are still there and will serve our country and make sure that the freedoms that were established so many years ago with blood and guts stay true. So I can voice my opinion in an election, and also voice my opinions any time I please without a government able to shut me up.
I am proud of the fact that even with the diversity that exists in this country. Most still believe it is the greatest country in the world and has the greatest opportunities to succeed, and opportunities to become more than just a camel farmer. Sure this country has it's problems and there are things that we may not like. Things that we see today that are thrust right in our faces have always been there. Today we have more media coverage than ever on the events that happen daily. I think there are some changes that need to be made, and there are things that I don't like. Thankfully I can go out and voice those anytime I please. For all those men and women who died years ago and keep dying today so I can have that freedom. And for the men and women in the government who keep fighting to make sure that we keep those freedoms. For them I am proud to be an American just like they are!

But lets face it, the majority of ppl involved with the efforts that took place on and after 9-11 were american. (By this statement I am not discrediting those who were involved with the effort, just pointing out some facts). This cannot be denied. The events that follow a tragedy such as 9-11 always will and always have united ppl. Whether they are from France or the US. Should the french not be proud of rebuilding their country after WWII? Even though many other ppl besides the french had a hand in it? |

Brittney Spears voted for Bush...says it all really doesn't it?
and jessica simpson, and she thought that buffalo wings actually came from buffalos, and tuna (the chicken of the sea) was actually an aquatic chicken. makes sense that Bush would be their man. |

LOL Then try reading the entire thread and following the conversation I was having with the idiot who says he feels safe in America and relates that we haven't had an attack in 3 years to Bush being president. The simple fact is we have only had 3 attacks ON OUR SOIL in 60 years. To try to give credit to Bush for not having one in the last 3 years is silly. If Al Qaeda does attack...it will take some time...it was 8 years before they were successful in America again..from '93, to 2001...it may be another 8 years from 2001 before they are succesful again. |

No, your sister knows about having something invested in the war....More importantly, so does her husband. They have both made sacrifices and have the right to be proud for that. You should be proud of them for those things, not yourself. |

Ah....More reason to be proud. IMHO, the only people who have the right to be proud of this country are those who actually serve it in the armed forces. That does not include me and that does not include millions of others. My dad served. He has the right to be proud. I do not because I, like most other Americans, have done NOTHING to make me proud to be an American. Am I thankful for those who have and do serve? Damn straight. I may not agree with what the U.S. Government decides to do all the time but I sure as hell can't blame the troops that have been put in various positions. They signed up to defend freedom. Props to them. |

I love my country.
Those who say that they are 'proud to be an American' and then preach the hatriotism of 'if you attack our President then you should leave the country' or the like, are not being proud of America. They are backing concepts that America is against. Why do I love this country? Because I and anyone else is free to speak out against the administration or any of it's officials, to question it's motives and it's values. Or really, because of the concepts that make that true. The great divide in this nation is being created not by the liberals, but by those individuals who push a 'with us or agin' us' agenda. Who attack the patriotism of anyone who thinks the war in IRAQ is a farce. Who attack the patriotism of anyone who thinks that Bush and his supporters agenda of moral values is a danger to this nation. The day we don't question or even attack those in office, they day we stop suspecting corruption where it could exist, and trade intelligent inspection and debate for blind nationalism is the day that democracy dies. I'm sick at heart of watching someone post 'The war in IRAQ is wrong' and seeing responses like 'If you don't like this country, leave.' People who post that stuff seem to want a dictatorship, not a democracy, and betray America with that kind of rhetoric. Bush was not voted against by those who voted against him because they are 'unpatriotic'. He was voted against by his detractors because they didn't think he was the best man for the job. Politicians and the administration are NOT America. They exist to serve us, and deserve all of the questioning, suspicion, and demands they get. I don't support Bush, I do question his policies and his motives, and yes, I do love my country. But I will never, ever, blindly support a politician or president if I don't feel their actions merit it. And those who turn that into being 'UnAmerican' have no idea what America is really about, or what a Democracy stands for. |

Hey Aaron .. I was just wondering .. honestly .. Is not being a working citizen who votes, makes money, spends it, contributes to our economy, etc .. Is that not actually enhancing our country?
I have not fought for my freedom with weapons, but I pay taxes, I work, I give money to poor people. I do MANY things that contribute to the continuing greatness of America. Please tell me why that doesn't give me the right to be PROUD of myself and PROUD to be American? |

I served my country as a young man. I chose to do so, along with hundreds of thousands of other men and women. I chose to live in this great country, that within 200 years has become a world superpower. Is the United States a perfect country? Absolutely not. What country is? It is the country that my family chose to begin a new life, and I am proud to be an American.

I am a prowed citizen of the earth, who happens to live in Los Angeles because of the weather, and because I am free to realize my dreams here.
Now, that's what I think: The results of these 2004 Presidential elections show me that the average population of the US is still unconscious. The big problem is religion. People are endoctrinated, and their mind becomes prisonner of Dogmas. The worst is that people are slaves of their mind instead of being themselves. If the majority of people were true to themselves, honest and respectful of themselves and others, then they would elect a leader who knows truth. The result of the election is a reflection of this countryes state of mind... an attempt at preserving the old values that do not have their place in the 21st century anymore. I am optimistic, as right now, human beings are waking up, and events are taking place that cannot be undone. The old generations are dying and new generations are taking over. |

You have every right to be proud of yourself for those things. But there are multiple nationalities who do the same things.....Even within the borders of our country. Are their efforts worth any less simply because they are not American? Do they deserve less pride because of their nationality? Nope. I'm proud to be an independent thinking individual who has the opportunity to live in a country that was founded on great principles. |

Well, those things you mentioned have very little to do with being an american imho. I can go to my local store at 4am and get creamfilled twinkies, I could sale content, and I could go to webmaster meetings in a fancy custom suit. Yet, none of those things have anything to do with nationality. National pride in the US is sickening, the flag is plastered in every damn corner. Enough is enough. The reason most europeans on GFY (and elsewhere) *hate* the americans is the overwhelming arrogance as you perceive yourselves to be the best. Those are just my worthless ![]()
