IP v/s Domains

What's the difference between hosting a site on an ip and on a domain? I have some full page ads and I want them hosted on a very cheap server. Unfortunately they give only one domain per account but allow many ips. So if I have the ads on the ips, and dont want any bookmarks or SE traffic, will there be a problem?

Also, is it possible to get whois information from an ip besides the server information?

The whois is on the host is it's an IP. Program like Neotrace can do it.

Some domain registrars will include DNS service and will point to any IP you want.

the problem with ips is that they are owned by the hosting company...

so if you ever get some good links, or anything of that sort towards it for any reasons... and you want to move, you are fucked and will be left with the host getting the hits.

I had a Yahoo listing towards one ip once... freakin 400-1000 hits down the toilet when I moved from that host.

domains are yours, they go with you. plus, I'd more likely trust something on a domain... hence, the ad might not be as poignant on an IP.
