The real danger of re-electing Bush

2 of the supreme court judges are 80+

There hasn't been a change to the Supreme court for 10 years, the longest span in about a century and a half.
The next president shapes the Supreme Court for decades.

You aren't just electing a president you are choosing a cabinet and the ultimate arbitrators.

Republicans don't necessarily appoint ultra-conservative justices.

Ann Coulter is already a lawyer, maybe Bush will choose her?

7 of the ones there were nominated by republican presidents. 4 by Reagan, 2 by Bush SR and one by Ford. Arguably all "conservative" presidents.

Also note the president NOMINATES someone for the office. The United States Senate must vote to approve the nomination. Yet another reason to get involved in your local politics

Bush has vowed to do so.

Last I heard the Senate is a Republican majority. How many of them do you think will go against his appointees?

But a fair amount of the past liberal justices were appointed by republican presidents, while Clinton appointed two moderates. 2 of the 4 current moderate justices, on the other hand, were appointed by republicans (Bush sr. and Ford).

Isn't there a senatorial election in 2004?

BTW, 34 senators are up for reelection - that's about a third.

Again, if you're truly worried about the country, your jobs, what justices get in, etc. then pay attention to your LOCAL candidates also.

The current projection is that the democrats will regain control of the senate.

Absolutely. It's a shame that so many people who profess an interest will not be voting. I personally had several friends/relatives who've actively discussed issues with me over the last couple years and said they are voting but never got registered before the deadline ran out. Booooo! to all non-voting people who discuss politics. You suck.

I've heard that the Republicans are sitting pretty for both the Senate and the House. I hope you're right.

I'd be willing to bet most of the people who post here they are voting for president will ignore the rest of the ballot
