Also note the president NOMINATES someone for the office. The United States Senate must vote to approve the nomination. Yet another reason to get involved in your local politics

But a fair amount of the past liberal justices were appointed by republican presidents, while Clinton appointed two moderates. 2 of the 4 current moderate justices, on the other hand, were appointed by republicans (Bush sr. and Ford).
