Anyone ever here did a Studio recording?
I wanna know what kinda equip people uses to record music. I wanna make music and vocal.
i already got a dual p3 1000mhz system loaded with soundforge, acid pro and vegas pro to make beats and audio editing. all i need is somethign that can record. I dont wanna rely on my PC to do that task. Its too much work for the harddrive to handel. I tried to record with my HD back then and i ended up with alot of bad cluster afterwards. ![]() |

Whoreans,
If you use the right programs your computer is the best way to go for recording. (unless you want to invest in a 2 inch tape machine) Steinburg makes a product called "The Producer Pack" which has everything (software wise) that you will need for recording. Pro tools makes the best mastering software there is and does make a PC version. You will need a good digital I/O card. The Digi 001 is under $1000 and will do the trick for you. Get ready to do a lot of reading. The Manuals are gonna kill ya. ------------------ The All NEW www.PythonVideo.com Portal Page www.pythonpays.com www.dollarmachine.com www.naughtymail.com www.awesomecontent.com |

Whoreans,
Get cubase or cakewalk for midi sequencing and audio recording. A P3 1000 can handle a lot of tracks, 30 easily. Buy a 24 bit soundcard for recording, Gina maybe. For starters get a Shure SM58 mic, pretty inexpensive. Get a keyboard/synth - will be the most confusing buy. Now you're all set to begin! As you advance you'll keep adding stuff, but this much is enough to set you off comfortably. |

Hypo,
You are talking about the Event line of digital I/O cards when talking about the Gina. the Layla might be a better bet for his needs. Depending on what he wants to spend. The Steinberg Producer Pack has Cubase among other software packages in it. ( Steinburg is the company the makes Cubase) It is cheaper than buying all of the necessary software separately and is designed to work through the all steps of recording to burning seamlessly. ------------------ The All NEW www.PythonVideo.com Portal Page www.pythonpays.com www.dollarmachine.com www.naughtymail.com www.awesomecontent.com |

First of all get a decent HD...
second, don't buy a sblive, it sounds hella "cheap". Just my 2 cents. |

Accoustics are important too. I always taped egg cartons to my ceiling to muffle any echo effects. High tech rules!

Whoreans dont get SBLive. Actually you should get it, you can use all those free soundfonts on the web - so it's one of the cheapest samplers available! But besides that also get a dedicated recording card - Gina, Layla, whatever - they differ in the number of inputs outputs and price. Quality should be the same as they're all 24 bits. Gina would be cheaper. Later on you'll need a mixer, to plugin the outputs from all your synths and modules and mics into and that mixer will output into the soundcard. A mixer also has preamps that will increase your mic volume for much clearer vocals. But forget about that now.
Elvis, I dont know about Producer Pack, but since he already has soundforge and acid all he should need is Cubase. Soundforge comes with some Direct X effects so you'll have a lot of reverbs, delays, flanges, choruses etc. to keep you busy till you go in for a dedicated hardware effects processor. But firstly you need a midi comptible music keyboard to play with - thats the first thing you need else you'll turn into another of those software musicians that cant play anything. Zzounds.com has some pretty cheap Yamaha stuff going out right now you might check it out. And you'll also need a small midi interface to link your keyboard to your comp, should be cheap. I do electronica, dance and new age, with vocals. For R&B I think most people use the Akai MPC 2000. That has its own sequencer and beat thingie so you would not even need a comp, tho its better to output everything to comp and mix it there. That thing costs over 2000$ tho, and you'll need a lot of sample CDs to go with it. |
