You're from Australia???? I know some folks form over there, your cops can be just as aggresive. But guess what, the cops DID NOT initiate the pursuit, the failure of the idiot driving the fleeing car did. If this happened in YOUR country the same result could have occured.

In actually, after having done several myself; at that speed it was kinda iffy. I would have placed another unit up ahead to try and slow the veh. in some way before attempting the PIT. That has worked well in the past.

In the south the cops don't fuck around like they do on the west coast. I used to live in Orlando, FL and cops would often just execute people who did not stop their cars. One time it happened while a news chopper was filming it live. A car was going slow but would not stop and after a half hour car chase through the city the cops just surounded the car and opened fire.

These dumb fucking kids killed themselves. That cop should get an award.

... how hard is it to just stop the persuit, for christ sake there is two teenagers sitting in that car and those idiot cops act like someone just killed the president and is taking a runner.

stop the persuit, the suspect slows down, 3 inter sections down the track keep following them in a civilian car, once they stop: arrest them. that easy, no need to kill two kids.

and yes, I live in australia, but I am from germany and above is exactly what german police does.

Think about this. Had the Pathfinder skidded and flipped on the highway, those tractor trailers they just passed 5 seconds before would've also been involved.

That's weak.

And I'm all for kids Darwining themselves off the planet. In this case, however, the cop deserves whatever he has coming to him.

I read the lawyers are all over this. The local government is already backing away. Using a vehicle in this manner might be policy but it can easily be seen as excessive force. Why not wait till the vehicle ran out of gas? It was along chase as it was... it would have only been a little longer.

My friend who is cop in Jersey City ran through a red light while chasing joy riders and t-boned a mini van. Luckily no one in the mini van was hurt.

A car chase always ends up bad.

Common sense should prevail........

Cops should get the license number, description of the car and person. After that they should let up chasing and sent out an APB.

It is a fact that police chases increase the likelihood of serious injury. This is why Los Angeles has passed several regulations to limit high speed chases. Why not tag the car and wait? Or back off till the car ran out of gas. Cars are considered deadly weapons. The Georgia trooper had only been chasing the car for a few minutes (as stated in the video). He was being gung-ho. The trooper should pay for his actions.
