SEO Experts, can I get your opinion on Google's reply on PR0 consumptionjunction.com?

SEO Experts, can I get your opinion on Google's reply on the PR0 ranking for consumptionjunction.com?

Hi Rick,

Thank you for your note. We searched for your site and found that it is currently included in our search results. To see the results of our search, please visit the following link:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...=Google+Search

As you may know, results in our index change regularly based on ongoing, automated processes aimed at improving the quality and content of our search results. Changes you observe may include, but are not limited to, addition of new sites, changes in the ranking of existing sites, sites falling out of the index or getting dropped and sites' content fluctuating between old and new content.

We realize these changes can be confusing. However, these processes are completely automated and not indicative of wrong-doing or penalization of individual sites. We currently include over four billion pages in our index and it is certainly our intent to represent the content of the internet fairly and accurately. The ongoing changes you have observed are part of this effort.

While we cannot guarantee that your page will consistently appear in our index or appear with a particular rank, we do offer guidelines for building a "crawler-friendly" site. You can find these guidelines at http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html. Following these recommendations may increase the likelihood that your site will show up consistently in Google search results.

We hope the information we have provided above is helpful to you. Due to the tremendous volume of information and help requests we receive, we are not always able to provide personal attention to questions pertaining to individual websites. If this response did not adequately resolve your question, we hope that you will visit the webmaster section of our site at http://www.google.com/webmasters/. In an effort to better address your needs, we've dedicated this entire section of our website to answering common webmaster questions, listing Google's quality requirements and recommendations, and much more.

Of course, we cannot anticipate and answer everyone's questions on our website. Realizing this, we have also created a Google discussion group on Google Groups where Google users and webmasters can connect to share their vast knowledge and experience. You can access this group at http://groups.google.com/groups?q=go...pport.general. If you have already checked the webmaster section of our website and haven't found an answer, we encourage you to post your question to the Google Support group.

Regards,
The Google Team

Subject: Our Site was banned and we've done nothing wrong
Date: Wed, 23 Jun 2004 07:41:09 -0700

Hello,

I own ConsumptionJunction.com one of the largest websites in the world.
We get millions of unique visitors each day and we've never done link trades or anything else that could possibly be construed as unfair manipulation of the Google.com search results. We have 10s of thousands of links out there pointing at our site and all those links were placed on the web out of free will by the owners of the respective websites.
Why then were we banned? When I search for Consumption Junction I only find sites that have nothing to do with Consumption Junction!

Please look into this and tell me what I can do to get consumptionjunction.com unbanned. We should have a PR 8 but instead we have a PR 0. It just isn't fair.

I don't think it is an automated response. I had gotten an automated response and hours later I got this.

I think they used a form response but I also think someone searched for consumptionjunction.com and saw that it wasn't banned. Why then would I have a PR0 if there are 10s of thousands of pages linking to me?

Hmm, well Rick, if it's not automated, it certainly stinks of "boilerplate" to my nose..

I guess you can check their advice anyway. Same would apply to any site though...

Now this is quite interesting...
I remember when we spoke on the phone the other day you had a PR0 and no backlinks. Even a search for consumption junction yielded no results on CJ's domain. While doing a search today still yields no results for CJ's domain, it seems you now have a PR3 and 175 backlinks (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l... nction.com%2F).

What's more interesting is that there seems to be over 4100 references/citations (a lot of which are links) with Consumption Junction (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...tion.%2Bcom%22). Based on the backlinks you have shown above, you should definitely have at least a PR6 given that the sites linking to you are mostly PR5's and 6's as well.

I also noticed this:
http://www.consumptionjunction.com/: 3/10
http://consumptionjunction.com/: 0/10

When I goto the www version, I get redirected to http://www.consumptionjunction.com/home.asp
In general, Google doesn't like redirections but this should not be enough of a reason to get you such a low PR of just 3. Anyone else have ideas? I'm at a loss myself. The PR should be much higher than just 3. But I suppose this is much better than when we spoke on Monday and it wasn't in Google at all.

it's not automated answer, but a template reply. Pretty much the same (if not the exact) a friend received on a similar question. If you further reply you'll get a more human answer.

Do you think they unbanned it for me only two hours after I sent the email? Maybe the employee is a fan.

That sucks Rick. I'm showing a 0 PR for CJ also.

That response was weak from Google.

Btw, you should go after all the fuckers scamming your brand name. Looks like there are a lot of them out there based on the search results that came up.

I've gotten the same letter after bitching about low rankings for a term I'm legitimately optimized for and spend 1000's on adwords for.

You don't want to know. It's a mind boggling number.

If you had every listing on the Hun for a month you wouldn't even be in the ballpark.

There was a PR update the last 48 hours or so, that would explain how you went from a PR0 to a PR3 and why you now have some backlinks. The 175 is far short of how many links are really pointing to you though. More surprisingly is that I counted at least 3 PR6's linking to you from the list of 175. That alone should get you at least a PR5. But doing a search for "consumption junction" I do notice your site is listed in number 10. But given there's no cached version and its just a generic url as the title does puzzle me.

Yeah, seriously, I had no idea you were getting so much search volume but according to overture, its quite staggering:

475116 consumption junction

Those webmasters are definitely getting a nice chunk of traffic off your name. Sending a couple C&D's should be enough to boot them off.

I show a 3 for http://www.consumptionjunction.com with 173 backlinks. I show a 0 for http://www.consumptionjunction.com/home.asp, didn't check the backlinks.

As to why your a 3 and not 5 or 6 (don't think adult sites get any higher), I don't know. You need to hire a good SEO to work on the site.

>We realize these changes can be confusing. However, these processes are completely automated and not indicative of wrong-doing or penalization of individual sites.

If it looks like bullshit, smells like bullshit, and feels like bullshit then more than likely it is bullshit.

Their whole response is bullshit if you ask me. They are definitely (was or is) penalizing you.

There is no way you can have that many links directed to you and come up with a PR0. Not all of those links are redirects. Sounds fishy, or I should say smells shitty.

Try deleting the cookies out of your browser, you won't get redirected and you'll see the PR 3,

The free web space guy said there is nothing wrong with him having a program that generates pages to manipulate Google and I can threaten legal suits all I want but he won't remove it. Now I'm pissed. Does anyone know if there is a precedent here?

Hey Rick,

Jay and I were discussing this as well.
I honestly can not figure out why this has happened to CJ.

As per the guys targetting "consumption junction" in the SE's, go after them.

Not only does that term receive lots of traffic, but I'm willing to bet that it's higher than average quality SE traffic.

(Those top listings are stealing a lot of what should be your traffic and money)

Good luck.

What can be done to apache servers to force http://domain to go to http://www.domain ?

Isnt this a PR leak that can be easily fixed?

WEll it looks like a copy and paste reply to me. A few weeks ago i spoke to Marc about your google situation (yes in panama).
Then again, google is a weird bitch to control. I have a few k keywords ranked #1-#5 .. example "sex videos".
Sometimes my sites completly disappear from google, then a few weeks later i'm back on #1-#5. This freaks me out but i'm used to it now.

check http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...8&q=sex+videos
#4 is mine ... (yes it sucks, you know why

I remember i sent an email to google support as well, and i got this reply:

1) a technical glitch on our side which caused us to 'miss' your site; we crawl over 2 billion pages every few weeks; hiccups will happen. Google is a free service; as such, there is no guarantee that any site will appear in our index.

2) Your site was unreachable when we tried to crawl it; it was down for maintenance, or the server crashed. You can check your server logs to see if you had any down time in the past four to six weeks.

3) Your content changed significantly as did links pointing to your page and you no longer have page rank or your page had low page rank to begin with and a small change caused you to be dropped.

Despite the frustration this may cause you, we are not able to 'fix' it.
It is likely that your page will reappear when we update our index again in a few weeks.

Talk to ya soon,

B.

I do see the PR3. I was just stating that redirecting is not typically liked by search engines.

Forward a copy of your letter and the guy's response to Google. I'm sure they'll love it (and ban him/his network).

Cheers,
Matt

I wonder why they have Bang Bus and Milf Hunter on that list. It isn't like they are free.

Maybe all you SE experts can get rick his listing back by getting #1 listing for consumtion junction and redirecting it to his site

Are you serious? Here's a few cases that have been disputed over meta tags, while this guy may not be specifically going after meta tags, he surely knows that he is stealing traffic that is looking for your site. Should be open and shut rather quick within arbitration. This guy is just being an idiot if he thinks he stands a chance.

Rick if you are so worried about people stealing your succes, you may want to catch the typos of CJ that expire in 2 days.

consmpionjunction.com
consumptionunction.com

according to Overture they get some traffic

Forget about precedents. Just send over CJ's trademark infringement negotiation specialists.

When someone links to http://domain the PR value connot be transfered to http://www.domain.com by changing the Apache configuration. It's just stored in Googles database.

yep but yahoo doesnt know you have to pay to get into it.
get some more text on that warning page and youll be a little better ,

as for these idiots
http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...ption+junction

your number 10 could be bumped if you add more text and get "consumption junction" mentioned some more.

you can pass out some C&D's but most wont pay attention or have fake whois info.
