The diffrence is if you access the rooms from an outside door or from inside the building.

motel = entrance from street

hotel = must enter building to enter rooms

We've got ourselves a winner! Motel doors open to the outside and Hotels open to the inside.

well, close. It's short for Motor Hotel aka 'Motor Inn'

the difference is the FRESH cumstains on the bedsheets as opposed to dried cumstains in hotels.

We all know motels see more daily traffic

And here I was thinking it was the size of cockroach that determined the difference

When I said the doors open to the outside I meant when you exit your motel room you are standing outside. Outdoors. Not that the doors open outwards. The same with Hotels...when you exit your room you're indoors.

Name 1 that doesn't. Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn...name just one.

That's actually what I meant. (and yeah, I know it sounds stupid and petty) hehe.. I never really considered a desk in a room a lobby. In my mind a lobby is an entry way with elevators and such..

I've been to many Motels that have doors inside. Motel 6, LAX. Motel 6, Sunnyvale. Motel FreezingYourAssOff, Calgary, Alberta (I forget the name of that motel, but the doors were all inside).

Call me cheap... if it has a clean bed and room, I'll take a motel over a hotel anyday, as long as it's not for business. I see little difference, unless I'm paying over over $300 a night (in which case I'm entertaining clients).

That's alright man, you didn't have to stroke my ego. I just wanted to save face in my own head before I ran off the board crying.
