Oprah is a Class Act

To celebrate her 19th season, Oprah secretly arranged for the studio audience to be all people who needed new cars but couldn't afford them.

She said 12 lucky audience members would get new cars. Then she told the audience to look under their seats and open the gift box and that one of the boxes had a set of keys and one more person had won a car.

When each person opened their gift box each had a set of keys. So all 276 got brand new cars. (Over $8 Million)

That's real class and utter generosity in my book.

the funny thing is she makes $500,000 a day ($150m a year) so it will take her 2 weeks to make that back; but still... that's a VERY nice thing to do

Very nice of her.

What's even more surprising is that most of the people on
that picture are white. I thought she would be more inclined
to give the new rides to the brothers, since she has a history
of being extra nice to blacks (no duhh).

I think it's a nice gesture.. however, I personally believe her motives are self serving. A true Philanthropist derives satisfaction from the act of giving, not the act of receiving recognition for giving.

I also could think of a several ways that money could be better well gifted.

If recognition for giving is what she is after, how about grabbing a camera crew, walking through a children?s hospital and paying the medical debts of parents with sick or dieing children. She would get more self serving recognition doing that, than giving away 100 cars.

Why do people so quickly assume black people don't have money and white people all do?

There are more poor white folks in this country by far.

Once again, because she has a history of being much nicer
to blacks. Which is understandable.

You're telling me that if we put 20 people in the room, 10 black
and 10 white, there will be more poor whites than blacks?

Don't think so.

Mostly people give away things because they want to help or want see other people happy.(atleast that is the way it should be)

Why so bitter?

Just dont take it personal, because I think the same sometimes.

You dont want to be blue-eyed. But you got try to stay positive too.

In this case, why not give her a little credit instead .

Life is complicated today. Way too many aspects and
time today. In 2000 years people will be psychotic morons.

We'll see one or two on ebay shortly.

I wonder how those people will manage to pay car insurance.

Great gesture, but looks poorly executed. From the exposure i've seen, Pontiac was not even really mentioned.

Wow. Everyone's a cynic these days. The lady gives away 276 cars, and she's self serving.

I don't think she's generouse because she can afford to be, but she is genearous and she can afford to be REAL generous. I'd like to have the kind of money she has, my favorite causes would finally have the kind of funding they need to make a big difference in the world.

That's pretty disgusting in my opinion.

Yes, I know she helps out good causes BUT 90% of those people likely already have 1 or more cars.

Why not give $1,000 to 8,000 families below the poverty line?

I know she likely has done that, but still, then make it $1,000 to 16,000 families below the poverty line..

Oprah is very generous but I think the cars are donated by GM..like most of the products that are given away on her show, they are a courtesy of the product's maker or seller. This is just simply another form of advertising for the companies (give away free stuff and hopefully the people watching at home will go get one because Oprah recommended it).

It's smart really...since the vast population of spenders are usually women and ALL women watch Oprah or atleast have seen her show.

To give away a few hundred to the audience is simply nothing when you can get at least 5% of the viewers at home to actually buy the product after it hits Oprah's Hot list.

Yeah nice stunt.

How about taking that money and helping some people mthat really need the help.

If they could not afford cars, then what the fuck were they doing sitting on their asses in her studio??

Dont you think that it would have been better if they were getting jobs.??

Now they have cars that they can not afford to insure.

Nice, 200+ people on the road now without insurance, because they dont have money, because it is a lot easier to watch opra than to work.

Nice JOB Opra.

SHE didn't donate anything. The cars were donated by the manufacturer, including the manufacturer agreeing to pay for customized options for each persons vehicle.

Oprah is just the one who ends up getting the free publicity & exposure from tards who don't look past the surface of such shameless self promotion.

Class would be her donating them herself, in PRIVATE behind closed doors and no one ever hearing about it. Big difference.

Who cares HOW 276 people got brand new cars. Oprah made it happen with the help of Pontiac. Props to Oprah ( and Pontiac ).

When you can arrange to give away 276 brand new cars that someone else donates, Props to you too.

The ability to give is an incredible gift itself.

More power to her and her success.

(although the cars were provided by Pontiac)
