I'm still on the fence with that question. I'm not religious. I think most people believe in God because of the first cause argument which is commonly presented in catechism type classes.

Is this a serious question? Or do you just intend to bash religion?

What are all you guys gonna do if it's all true? What are you going to do if you wake up from death and come face to face with the Jesus you have rejected on earth. How will you escape the wrath of God then?

A lot of people pray when their life is in the shitter or when a family member is near death. (I'm NOT saying that applies to you, BTW).

I always find it amusing when someone starts a thread in here about a tragedy in their lives and all of a sudden, everyone says 'God bless you' or 'I will keep you and your family in my prayers.' A lot of these people are THE SAME ONES who say 'FUCK GOD' in other threads.

AND YOU CALL ME A HYPOCRITE ???

I beleive in God but the subject does not belong on this board. Those who constantly bring up religion on this board are no better than those annoying people who knock on doors and hand out pamphlets.

John 3:16 is probably the best one. But bible verses aren't going to work on people in here because they don't accept the authority of the bible.

You have to convince people that belief in God is logical and natural. One way of doing this is to show how Evolution is IMPOSSIBLE. If Evolution is impossible, what's the alternative?

I believe in God, and that Jesus christ died for me.

Many people here believe differently, and that is cool. We all will NOT have the same beliefs.

Like i have said in the past, as long as nobody tries to preach to anyone here or try to convert, we all will get along on this topic.

I am not here to convert atheist into believers.

Ah, the old favorite Christian tactic... scare people into believing.

I once heard a Christian sum up his belief in this way: "I would rather believe in God and then discover on my death that I was wrong and there was no God, than be a non-believer and discover on my death that I was wrong, and there IS a God and now I have to burn in hell forever." What a coward.

Well that is exactly why I am a non-believer. I would rather risk rotting in hell than be so easily manipulated. Christianity is all about controlling people. If there is a God and he is offended that I never believed in him, then fuck 'im, he doesn't deserve my worship then.

If God so badly needs our worship that he roasts people who dont blindly believe, then why doesn't he just show himself and put an end to all the debate? Something like a big bearded face over Manhatten would work for me. I mean why doesn't he; he is a supreme being afterall so it should be easy for him.

I find the Judeo-Christo-Islamic idea that life is really just a big test, a game, where you do what your priest/imam says or you roast in hell forever, to be very childish. I mean, could they be any more obvious at the mind-control game?

Give me freedom or give me death. Fuck all "gods".

Superpower is relative to whatever being/powers you're talking about. That makes it sound like you believe humans are the top of the universal powers chain. I'm not saying that I believe in the concept as presented by Christ, Mohammad, etc but I'm saying that it isn't an impossibility. The concept of superman or a planet of the apes are just as likely given the size of the universe and the fact that we're constantly contradicting our own theories of how the universe behaves. Ala Steven Hawking's recent switch in ideas and more powerful telescopes destroying theories on universal makeup.

OK, since I am not trying to convince any of you one way or the other ( just asking for what makes you think the way you do)

I will re pose the question...

What verse, saying , or slogan, has effected how you feel about religion the most in YOUR lifetime thus far?

I think natural forces exist that man does not have the ability to understand. The concept of a single minded God or Creator? Can't buy it. Where did this God come from? How did he get his magical powers?

Ah, the "blasphemy" concept. Yet another tool in the Judeo-Christ-Islamic arsenal used to keep people in line.

Would you feel better if, rather than saying "fuck god", I said fuck the people who invented and perpetuate this concept of a "god", and use it manipulate and control other human beings?

My favorite bible verses? So many... How about Exodus 21:2, 21:7, 21:20-21, 22:3, Leviticus 22:11, 25:39, 25:44-46, Ephesians 6:5, Colossians 3:22, 1 Timothy 6:1, Titus 2:9-10, 1 Peter 2:18. All the detailed instructions you need to maintain/trade your slaves the Godly way.

oh sorry i read to fast and thought you were looking for a fav passage... but actually you're after a reason WHY anyone should believe right?

Well it's quie simple, I can't tell you to believe... it is a decision you have to make yourself. Reading the NT and seeing how Jesus has suffered for us is a big one for me... if you've seen the Passion you have quite a graphical example how bad it actually was.

Another point for me is that I could never accept the theory of Evolution, and after I've researched it I came to the conclusion that I can't accept it because it is impossible and has never happened.

If you wanna go deeper into this I'd suggest we talk on ICQ or something coz here on GFY you'll just get the standard sheepish and childish remarks you're used to.

ive been gripping a lot with spirituality lately

i am almost certain there is a god or some sort of higher being, but as far as an afterlife i am incredibly confused and don't really know if one exists

I belive in god but don't attend church. In my opinion its no longer a place to pray, its a place of doing business and meeting potential husbands/wives. I would much rather read the bible at home and pray at home than at some social club where all people do is judge you on how religious you are. Not to mention that around here churches are setup all over the place in order to prevent or bring down strip clubs/sex toy stores and other similar establishments since they can't be within 1 mile of a church.

Even though i could see how the big bang theory could explain the creation of life in the universe i still can't accecpt it since those protons, electronics, helium atoms and hydrogen atoms didn't come out of nowhere. We are nothing but a small dot on another dot when you compare it to the entire universe. Those billions of galexies came from somewhere, they don't have to be there but they are and somehting or someone put them there. I guess we'll never know how it all started and should just enjoy life instead of "hating" on what others beliefs are, religious or not.

I believe in a supreme being (well, sometimes). However, I don't believe in religion.

if you aren't agnostic you're basically an idiot. you're most likely a very uneducated porn peddler n' you claim to *know* whether or not there's a god?

Religion has actually convinced people that there is an invisible man living in the sky, and he has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these things he will send you to a place full of fire, and smoke, and burn and torture forever and ever 'till the end of time.... but he LOVES you. And he needs money.

-George Carlin

Though on a personal level, I believe "god" is merely an interpretation by ancient man of travellers from another world (or perhaps time).

why do you ridicule anyone that does believe... if I'm not mistaken we're still living in a free world with your own choices... I respect your choice why do you mock mine?

My favorite biblical passage is

mathew 24:1 it outlines the times we live in now.....

share with me your favorite biblical passage...
I don't believe in "religion" - I do believe in the God of Abraham which is the same for Muslims, Catholics and Christians.

Even Einstein believed in a "God" and because he did - we have relativity as he believed that the creator would make an ordered universe, one which we could understand.

I've read the entire Bible cover to cover - but the passage that rings the bell is - "come to me as if a babe in arms".

You believe because you believe.
