    I can't help think that the level of any capacity to "think" has passed some by.

    We got this person who actually created a thread entitled "Americans are answering the call" and sat watching a load of "face" on "C-Span and the Generals testifying before the House Armed Services Committee" and then comes along to GFY to update the world.

    This "updating" means, least in his eyes, the "changing of the will" or destruction of nations.

    This kinda dialogue along with the rest of that junk talk leaves me in no doubt this is one real sick critter who must have been aborted and survived, or, failing that, - is a product of one *very* sick society.

    I wonder if he has many friends cos all I here is how "powerful" he is all about his enemies and how he is gonna change nations and attack em...

    That is one very sad pile of old shit that needs washing away...

                    Plus, there is such a heavy % of the recruits being "soliders of color" too. For so many minorities with no education or job training (or very little) with no real hope for good employment, this seems like a decent way to go. Heck, for alot..it's the ONLY option left them.

                        the economy is in the shitter right now It's showing signs of getting better but it's still bad. During any time of economic down turn enlistment rises. I remeber about 7 or so years ago when the economy was rocking they had tons and tons of ads for the military on TV all the time because they couldn't get enough people to enlist because they could get better jobs. I think a lot of people come out of high school and decide they don't want to work at some shitty minimum wage job so they join the military for 4 years, and get the GI bill.

                            The military is the only dead end option left for so many in today's economy. They're not thinking "God, I want to fight for my country" as much as they are thinking, "Food, clothing, shelter," and hopefully some training they can use when they get out!

                                                                            isn't really about "what they want". There's no way in hell the US is going to leave that region in an unstable condition. You got Iraq which is all fucked up right now, you got Afghanistan which is even more fucked up, and you got countries like Kuwait which are our allies that we're not about to abandon and leave to the wolves.

                                                                            We've got fresh troops shipping out and headed there every week. I've got family members going to both Iraq & Afghanistan in the next couple months. Their tours of duty are 1 year minimum.

                                                                            This is long range stuff man. I'd be surprised if we were out of that area of the world within the next 100 years.

                                                                            It's pretty much just a fact of life now. The Arabs may not like it, but honestly, there isn't a damn thing they can do about it.

                                                                                            I really don't think Vietnam could be reproduced today. That was a unique set of circumstances. So I seriously doubt that scenario will ever happen anywhere else, let alone Iraq. (maybe Korea someday)

                                                                                            anyway, I didn't intend to debate this tonight, just wanted to throw in my 2 cents about charly's ten year thing. If you guys wanna beat up on theking, go for it, I don't much care for him either. He's a moron.

                                                                                            But with the occupation of these areas, and the purpose for being there, (which obviously varies from place to place) ya gotta look at that stuff realistically... if we pulled out of there next week, Iraq, Afghanistan.... they'd be lost to anarchy and collapse. After all this, that would be one monumental failure on our part.

                                                                                            And certainly we don't have a problem hanging out in hostile territory. How long have we had a base in Cuba? Korea? Plenty of unfriendly areas. You can't ever really compare one place to the next, because they're all different in their own way. Iraq is not Japan and never will be. Cuba is not Iraq either.

It will probably be a forced situation by those living in that region. It has already been made clear by Iraqi's that they don't want any prescence - just go.

                                                                                                The other factor is that Bush only cares about one thing - his own ass. So he can't have the "Iraqui problem" lingering - that is, if he even makes it thru to any prospect of another election - a week is a long time in politics :-)

                                                                                                The "leftovers" will probably be volatile, but that's up to those living and involved in those countries to resolve - it's not the responsibility of the US to resolve tribal conflicts - tho tis evident the US should never have been there in the first instance.

                                                                                                All that stuff has just ensured plenty more attacks on the US in future - wise move!

Also I think the odds of him being re-elected are pretty damn good if Iraq is still unstable come election time. Voters don't like switching presidents when there is conflict.

                                                                                                        Fact is, Iraq was deemed a threat to us and we acted on that. Pure and simple. You can debate the WMD thing and the "tribal conflict" stuff all you want. Bottom line is, we made a choice to take out the leadership there and we did it. Now we're under obligation to stabilize it. You don't just leave the country a smoldering crater and hope the goat farmers 'figure it out'.

They are coming to America to work, to make money, they are not trying to be "American". In fact many of them loathe the "American values" and long to return home. They estimated that they had destroyed 95% of Iraq's WMD's. 1441 called for the production of...or proof of destruction of the remaining 5% of the WMD's and/or materials. Iraq failed to produce either. The 15 members of the UN Security Counsel that voted 15-0 for 1441 assumed that Iraq still possessed WMD's and/or WMD materials. US intelligence...Israeli intelligence...British intelliegence...French intelligence...and German intelligence were in agreement that Iraq still had the remaining 5% that had not been destroyed. Could it be hidden...yes...could it have been shipped from the country...yes...could it be that the worlds best intelligence agencies were wrong...yes. Do I know the truth...no. Do you know the truth...no. Will the truth ever be known...who knows at this point.
