Depends on the price. If I can get a really good deal on a coach flight on sale, I'll take it. If I'm paying full price anyways, might as well upgrade.
Watch out on United though. I flew first class to Austin & the plane was so old...no movies, no choice of meal, nothing. Not even warm nuts! lol

It all depends on where I am going, I would say when I do fly, about 75% of the time its in first class.
About 50% of the time its automatic upgrades, and there are those few times that I either buy the seat last minute as the airline is trying to fill the seat on the cheap, or I can social engineer that space. Since 9/11 I don't like flying as much as I used to, I really want a private railcar on the tail end of an Amtrak train.
