CyberBachelor 09-07-2004 10:08 PM

I rarely fly... If I do, I go coach! I'm a cheap bastard! :winkwink: :2 cents: :thumbsup

xxxdesign-net 09-07-2004 10:13 PM

well.. just looked on expedia and a flight from toronto-paris first class is 10K... Coach is $1000...

Unless you are millionaire... you'd be crazy to fly first class for that trip...

AndrewKanuck 09-07-2004 10:13 PM

Depends - if I can get a free upgrade on the airline because I have a status with them, I'll fly 1st on any flight - otherwise, I only fly first class if it's over 2.5 hours.

PersianKitty 09-07-2004 10:13 PM

First class

DWB 09-07-2004 10:13 PM

Business is just fine for me if I am going any more than 6 hours. No need for first... that's a waste of money IMHO.

Though I flew first class twice from Tokyo to Chicago (United) and to be honest I sleep better in business beds than in the lay down first class beds (United) because I am too tall to lay totally flat, I can't put my legs straight. :-( In Business I can not be 100% flat but I can stretch out and get some good sleep.

Due to where I go, United is the airline I try to fly. :thumbsup

Lensman 09-07-2004 10:14 PM

I go first if it's a long flight, but being in NorCal, all my SoCal, Phoenix and Vegas flights are on Southwest. So no first there, but I like their rewards program.

So for Fla, Altanta, or Hawaii, it's always 1st for me. Seems like AWA has the best price for 1st.

Rictor 09-07-2004 10:15 PM

Naa...I'm too cheap. My wife had to nag me to get me to spend the extra $200 for the direct flight to Orlando in a few weeks. I wanted to save some cash by making a quick layover.

Ugh...Southwest is probably my least favorite airlines. The seats are so tiny and the planes are cramped. They do have the lowest rates out there but that's all they have going for them.

You have to hunt for the ticket and go the right time of year to get a good rate, plus you can use your miles to upgrade to first if you want. If you just buy it cold.. it's expensive to fly anywhere in any class.

pornguy 09-07-2004 10:18 PM

This has worked for the wife and I several times.

go to the airside and sit there. Let all of the other passangers baord. Once all the other are aboard, then you walk on last. If there are open seats in First class, just take one. If they ask for your ticket, try to find it, but dont produce it. Tell them that you upgraded at the very last minute, and that is why you were late boarding. 9 out of 10 tries you will fly first class.

If you do, then dont forget to tip the steu. She knew that you did not belong there anyway.

I've never seen an empty first class seat

first whenever possible but i'll take a direct flight with coach over first with a layover if the only carrier going direct doesn't have a first class option.

HomeVideos 09-07-2004 11:04 PM

First for me...

On the way to Internext I was sitting in First Class Row 3 right behind Lensman row 2.

It would seem that NORCAl to PHX or Vegas would be good options for AWA. They fly non stop to PHX and Vegas I believe, much better options over SWA...

That sounds pretty bad.

I heard that if you call with under 24hrs or less until you depart and there are open seats you can go first class for $99 on some airlines (upgrade).

I believe that was Alaska actually.

block 09-07-2004 11:13 PM

I rarely fly but when I do it is coach.... I've flown about 6 times in my life only.

Babagirls 09-08-2004 01:12 AM

nope.

never flew anywhere that i needed it.

i fly back and forth from Wisconsin to PA every 3 months, but thats only an hour and 1/2 flight. so, its not worth it.

the longest flight i ever took was to Florida this year (for internext) and even at that, it was a connecting flight....2 hours on each plane.

Pornweaver 09-08-2004 02:01 AM

There's only 6 seats in my jet, but they are very comfortable. So, I guess First Class?

man a jet! beats business class!

BlueFly 09-08-2004 02:18 AM

I usually package myself up and ride in the luggage area...

kmanrox 09-08-2004 02:24 AM

first in the usa, and biz intercontinental... anyone who says they actually *pay* for 'first class' (big difference between 1st class inter-north america' and 1st class intercontinental)... they are either lying to you, or they are so filthy rich they can afford to pay an extra 10-15k for their tickets... :2 cents:

reynold 09-08-2004 02:25 AM

that's a lot of money. i think it's a waste.

hova 09-08-2004 10:57 AM

first class for long flights, dont care about shorter flights

12clicks 09-08-2004 11:02 AM

first class only.

(although I did haveto take southwest from Vegas to burbank once)

dennisthemenace 09-08-2004 11:23 AM

About 50% of the time I do.. I'm addicted to the warm towels :)

slapass 09-08-2004 11:34 AM

I fly to Brazil quite a bit and going first class is killer. But it also fucking kills the pocket book. I am way too middle class to bur money like that.

Tala 09-08-2004 12:46 PM

I have never flown first class in my life. I mean, hell, what am I paying extra for, bigger seats??

Nah. I'll squeeze my fat ass into a coach seat and hope the three year old behind doesn't scream the whole flight or the guy infront of me leans his seat back to sleep and snores the whole time.

tranza 09-08-2004 12:57 PM

Not as much as I wanted.....

BigWebRev 09-08-2004 01:00 PM

first class......money is not an issue for that-

BRISK 09-08-2004 01:08 PM

I love first class, but the only thing that bothers me is that the extra amount you pay is not proportional to the extra amount you get.

In my experience, first class gets me 2-3 times as much space as economy, but costs 8-10 times as much.

excitica 09-08-2004 01:08 PM

just once - by pure accident :)

herbal logic 09-08-2004 01:24 PM

First class is never more than $500-$750 extra per way on United so long as you buy books of upgrade coupons. United sells them in lots of 15, and discounts to corporations. I jsut returned from Puerto rico and the upgrade was $600 per way and totally worth it.

$500 - $750 each way is a lot for a domestic upgrade or fare difference.

America West is normally only $700 to $1000 total for a round trip First Class Ticket...

I Flew California to Florida for internext and my ticket was only $900 First Class Round Trip...

Peaches 09-08-2004 05:27 PM

If I can upgrade using FF miles, I'll go first. But I can't rationalize spending the extra $$ to pay for a 1st class ticket.

I'll be heading to Tokyo a couple of times in the next 2 years and I'm trying to find a way to get cheap business class tickets. So far, it looks like a tough task :(
