Correction - less than 10% of my yard has to be MOWED

It's the perfect "no maintenance" yard. Over 2 acres currently backing up against greenbelt, the lake and other <2 acres I'm trying to buy and it takes me an hour or so with a weed wacker every few weeks to take care of it.

Of course, right now when the acorns are dropping it makes quite a racket, lol!

Here are some pictures from my first and so far prettiest fall here. All were taken from one of my decks. I love this place!!!!!

Hmmm....

I can't say for certain about her house, but I can say that I'd take her yard over any yard in Southern California.........well, what passes for a yard in SoCal.

LOL! Yes, it's very small - about 2300 sq feet (I moved from almost 4K sq feet so the Salvation Army liked me A LOT). It's a log cabin and I live in a resort in the mountains. Almost all the houses have metal roofs. Of course, the drawback is that you can't put a sat dish on one and end up with it in your yard - oy!

No wood stove, though I'd love one. I might retrofit one in later. No well - the lake I live on is the water source for the community and we have several pumping and treatment stations in the 800 acres we have here

Here are some more pics - it's not much but it's my all time favorite of any house I've ever lived in!

THAT is beautiful. I have always wanted a log home out in the sticks. very cosy and inviting looking. definately get a good wood stove. They rock.

You sound like Wig from achdebit.com

Everytime he's here he tells me all the things I COULD do to make it look nice Every once in a while he admits not having to have any maintenance is nice too.

This was my "I don't have to live in the burbs anymore where there's a good system and I work on the internet" house

For years I told my son when he graduated from HS, I was moving to the woods. I closed on April 30, he graduated in June, I was moved in my July.

Unfortunately progress has followed me. I've only been here 3 years and already we are the 2nd fastest growing county in the state. Thankfully I'm tucked away from the "city" so I hope it doesn't get too bad.

But moving even further is always an option

Peaches,

How many of those 800 acres are yours? (I'm drooling)

Actually.. this needs it's own thread...
Not enough

The neighborhood was originally started in the 70's when there was just a two lane road up here from ATL. The lots were selling for $500 each and were anywhere from 1/2 to 2/3 acre in size. Several weren't even buildable - they were "amenities" lots where you could come here for the day and use the pool, tennis court, lakes, clubhouse, etc.

A few houses were built back then and most are VERY small. Thankfully they've always had an HOA which has kept out mobile homes and trailers that are in some older resorts up here.

Over the past 10 years they built a 4 lane and more and more people have retired AND started working here (and a few make the drive to ATL a few days a week to work) so the houses have gotten bigger since they're full time. The last 15 or so homes have been in the 3K+ sq. footage with all the bells and whistles which is big for here. A TRUE log cabin hasn't been built since I've been here. When I moved up there were 300 houses and only 100 full time. Now there are 350 with 175 full and 175 part time.

Some of the lots on the ridge are now going for $50K+ for those same 1/2 - 2/3 acres now which is A LOT for this area. You can still find a lot for $4-5K but they won't be any good.

I have 3 lots right now and the guy who lives at the top of my street and I are trying to buy the other three on the side of me. My street is 4WD only so privacy is king

All in all I have a tad over 2 acres deeded. I also border greenspace and the lake. Except for someone building on those 3 lots I want to buy, there will be no more houses built anywhere around me. And if the 3 lots are built on, I still won't see them from my house - I'll just have to deal with the construction crap. The lots around me are long with the houses on the front so I get the back of their woods to back up against mine

I looked at over 250 houses before I found this. I told the RE agent I wanted a vacation home to live in I have to say, after living for almost 40 years in big houses in the burbs, this is the best

And if I told you how little I paid for it, I would make you cry.

I get so jealous everytime I see a pic of your cabin Peaches, it's beautiful and so quiet looking. I can't wait until the day I move out into the woods and have a nice lot and backyard and home. If there are any left by the time I can do that LOL

Ahhh the simple things in life are the best!

Thanks, Tera! It's not much and it's certainly not for everyone but it's my little slice of heaven. Even my friends and family thought I'd go nuts after a few months. But I can't even imagine living in the city or the suburbs again.

And with Atlanta only a bit over an hour away, whenever I need excitement, it's not further away than most people's rush hour commutes.

Nice cabin Peaches! Just started my new log home a week ago on 8 acres I own outside of town. Got the basement poured already, but that's about it. I was out on my property last night killing turkey buzzards with a shot gun. You can't do that in the city! LOL.

Here's a shot of my laneway I took last winter. I'm too cheap and lazy to plow it so I just throw the truck in 4 wheel drive and hope for the best.

OMG, that's awesome! Snow and log cabins are just the perfect match. Where is your property? If you haven't already found it, there's a good log cabin website here: http://www.lhoti.com/

There's a good discussion board I found handy when I was looking to buy. Enjoy and be sure and post more pictures!!
