Beer In Aluminum Bottles

Pittsburgh BrewingCompany, makers of Iron City beer, unveiled a new aluminum beer bottle at a news conference in Pittsburgh, Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004. The brewery has partnered with Alcoa Inc., the world's largest aluminum maker, to produce aluminum bottles that keep beer colder for longer, Alcoa officials said.

Cheers!

Hmmm interesting.

Hey have you ever noticed that beer out of a bottle is better than beer out of a can but beer out of a tap(a big can) is better than beer out of a bottle. Why?

because light kills beer, that's the reason for dark bottles.. But are they really bottles if they are aluminum?

Well lets see glass is a better retainer of cold than aluminum in general. It is why bottles stay colder than cans do.
So unless it has an vacum air pocket between layers like a thermos I do not see how it would stay cool longer.

That's what I was thinking
It would also mean less room for beer in the 'bottle'

Unless it is a bigger bottle with same inside volume. Then its brilliant.

Only one thing could make it more brilliant. A small bladder near the bottom of the bottle full of CO2 that is popped when you undo the bottle cap. Walla warm to icy cold when opening, and due to thermos vacum of bottle it could stay cold for up to an hour or two.

My uncle is an inventor, going through getting his things distributed and patented. He goes through so much of this all the time. Keep your notebook to yourself.

cans of stout have been using the co2 bladder idea for over a decade that I know of... maybe even longer

As for the thought of beer sitting in aluminum, I hope it's coated inside because aluminum causes alzeimers disease and memory loss.

Heineken has been doing this for about a year and a half now. The upper tier clubs and lounges in Boston all carry them.

awesome. i still like glass bottles though. the beer stays colder because the glass holds the temperature better than thin aluminum. also you taste the metal when drinking out of a can.

I'd still prefer glass bottles.. I don't want to taste the metal when drinking a beer.

That's what I was going to say

Both aluminium and plastic leave a taste.

And Lord knows what the long-term health implications are.

Aluminum is supposed to contribute to Alzheimers I think?

.. and yeah Aluminum would conduct the heat from outside to your liquid faster then glass. I'm not sure why they say it'll keep your beer colder?

On the plus side it would make your beer cold faster in the fridge.
