Pittsburgh BrewingCompany, makers of Iron City beer, unveiled a new aluminum beer bottle at a news conference in Pittsburgh, Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004. The brewery has partnered with Alcoa Inc., the world's largest aluminum maker, to produce aluminum bottles that keep beer colder for longer, Alcoa officials said.

Cheers! :glugglug

Those look real tasty.

Zerof8 08-24-2004 06:39 PM

Hmmm interesting.

Hey have you ever noticed that beer out of a bottle is better than beer out of a can but beer out of a tap(a big can) is better than beer out of a bottle. Why?

because light kills beer, that's the reason for dark bottles.. But are they really bottles if they are aluminum?

brand0n 08-24-2004 07:09 PM

ic is a berg thing. its a horrid tasting beer that people swear by in that area. no if ands or buts, that shit is going to sell like hotcakes to many people in that area and people who used to life there and miss it.

horrible tasting shit, i watched em down that piss like it was crown royal.

cherrylula 08-24-2004 07:10 PM

yucky I don't like to drink beer out of aluminum, although those things do look cool. :glugglug

Spunky 08-24-2004 07:11 PM

Isn't that just an aluminum can shaped like a beer bottle :glugglug

freeadultcontent 08-24-2004 07:15 PM

Well lets see glass is a better retainer of cold than aluminum in general. It is why bottles stay colder than cans do.
So unless it has an vacum air pocket between layers like a thermos I do not see how it would stay cool longer.

That's what I was thinking:2 cents:
It would also mean less room for beer in the 'bottle' :winkwink:

Unless it is a bigger bottle with same inside volume. Then its brilliant.

Only one thing could make it more brilliant. A small bladder near the bottom of the bottle full of CO2 that is popped when you undo the bottle cap. Walla warm to icy cold when opening, and due to thermos vacum of bottle it could stay cold for up to an hour or two.

I hope you patented that before you described the process to a few thousand people :Graucho

That's what you call marketing strategy, that's a god move.

My uncle is an inventor, going through getting his things distributed and patented. He goes through so much of this all the time. Keep your notebook to yourself. :)

pure energy 08-24-2004 08:57 PM

Good packaging I'm sure many drinkers will be happy. Cheers!

fr8 08-24-2004 08:58 PM

Hey those are pretty fucking sweet. How does the beer taste? Anyone know?

iwantchixx 08-24-2004 09:00 PM

cans of stout have been using the co2 bladder idea for over a decade that I know of... maybe even longer

As for the thought of beer sitting in aluminum, I hope it's coated inside because aluminum causes alzeimers disease and memory loss.

abyss_al 08-24-2004 09:01 PM

alcoa inc - theyre so big, theyre everywhere

Great to know.

As for aluminum and alzeimers, umm that is old data.

swoop 08-24-2004 09:09 PM

Imagine the bar fights and getting nailed in the head with one of these bottles....:1orglaugh

FlyingIguana 08-24-2004 09:12 PM

if its not in a bottle its not a fucking beer

wish pop was still sold in bottles(other than coke)

Zerof8 08-24-2004 09:25 PM

as far as all of the keep the beer cold longer shit going on, I have an idea too, just fucking drink it and dont babysit it you wont have a problem:glugglug

always works for me anyway:2 cents:

sixone 08-24-2004 09:51 PM

Heineken has been doing this for about a year and a half now. The upper tier clubs and lounges in Boston all carry them.:2 cents:

pure energy 08-26-2004 12:48 AM

I dont see the point of that really.. just a stupid gimmick to get some free press?

Reak 08-26-2004 02:50 AM

Soon it will be all plastic

beemk 08-26-2004 03:26 AM

awesome. i still like glass bottles though. the beer stays colder because the glass holds the temperature better than thin aluminum. also you taste the metal when drinking out of a can.

julioxp 08-26-2004 03:40 AM

I'd still prefer glass bottles.. I don't want to taste the metal when drinking a beer.

That's what I was going to say :)

Both aluminium and plastic leave a taste.

And Lord knows what the long-term health implications are.

Aluminum is supposed to contribute to Alzheimers I think?

.. and yeah Aluminum would conduct the heat from outside to your liquid faster then glass. I'm not sure why they say it'll keep your beer colder?

On the plus side it would make your beer cold faster in the fridge.
