Mostly diversification! The majority of successful affiliates these days split their traffic in 2 or 3 top sponsors, instead of one big sponsor (like in the old days).

The same reason sponsors have multiple-processing, affiliates have multiple-sponsors. :)

I prepay a couple guys 20k/mth and they roughly hit the target every month. My biggest darkcavern referrer does over 5k/wk and I wire him bi-weekly. I pay out close to 6 digits every month.

Making 6 digits/mth from your programs doesn't seem like shit to me though, you don't get financial security until you hit 7 digits or very high 6 digits and that's my goal. At this level I'm still throwing most of the money back into the program via shooting custom content and other persistent bills. It's actually surprising to me to see programs I thought were big ballers and I find out we're outpacing them considerably.

I've always had the sneaking feeling that this gravy train isn't going to last forever and I'm trying to get set 4 a long and luxurious life before it's all over...

We plan on throwing everything back into the site/program for the next 6 months or so, to reach the next level and make up for the years we didn't market much at all :glugglug

Bake 08-24-2004 11:31 PM

Nice to see some real numbers out there. I would have thought the lightspeed numbers would have been a bit higher or more guys around the 5k mark but I guess the thousands of small guys doing 100 per month add up.
Class act Steve I bet theres not to many with the balls to post.

Yeah we have to watch them carefullly.....CCBill helps us out in that regard :thumbsup

We also have scripts to monitor various behaviours that will alert us to fraud.

So far we've been lucky having some great Russian and Chinese "legit" affiliates.

I'm only fully relaxed when I'm home working, I don't really do vacations lol, as far as I'm concerned being self-employed has been an 8 yr vacation for me from the real world of wage-slaving and daily despair. I'm 38, I remember what it's like to work a REAL job for a living ;)

For you guys that are making real money: Do you think you could ever go back to working a regular job for a normal salary if you had to? I'm not sure I could. I don't know what I'd do, but I don't think I could handle working all week for an amount of money I now make in one night. While I'm asleep.

But TCG has huge accounts like other paysites promoting them on their exits and sending huge sales and that's why it's so hard to move up their webmaster rankings. I just started to promote them very recently and am only ranked 161... It's very hard to move up their ranks, and on bad days when I have no sales my ranking goes up even higher...

Sometimes you'd be surprised who's got traffic and who doesn't. I've been the sole cross-sell on some sites for programs I thought were HUGE and been surprised at how few sales were coming across from their join page. I've had guys I've never heard of open up accounts and scare the shit out of me with the number of joins they send all of a sudden.

A lot of the more well known programs are basically nothing more than fronts for a huge spam factory and they don't rely as much as you would think on normal linked webmaster traffic, all their sales come in big surges according to how much and how often they're mailing and how well their network runs for as long as they can keep it alive.

- NOTE I am speaking in general and not about TCG

It all depends how much traffic you send to get 50 signups!

dig420 08-25-2004 12:11 AM

anytime you're gonna be sending over say.. 15 joins daily it's a good idea to say hello to the webmaster and clarify the rules before you start sending.

We're ranked at #76 at TCG and that's about 3k-3.5k$ a month.

Like many others, I am shocked by how low these numbers are. I'm a bigger fish than I thought I was.

I divide my traffic among many different sponsors. My biggest one pays me about $2,700 per month.

I'd love to know where I rank among affiliates in the various sponsors I promote.

ha.

If you've never set up an affiliate program before then the odds of you accomplishing this in the current day and age are minimal. Try getting affiliates sending you 5 sales a day.

For 1, you'd need to have a PPS, and 2, you'd need some experience before giving out PPS, which sounds like you don't have yet.

These folks that keep telling how "shocked" they are are annoying, or those who repeat over and over how they "expected" more

What's so shocking about refreshingly honest sponsors that have a well sized business going?

I feel encouraged to use all sponsors that posted these stats and in fact I am already or going to send traffic to all of these

Toni 08-25-2004 12:21 PM
