What is the best way to resize video clips to put on a site. I have heard to do it when you capture, (lower to size) and also to do it when you export. I am trying to get 2 min. clips to 30MB as easily as possible. What do most people do. (I am using raw mini dv footage). Thx

if your working with wmv9 files.... you'll just want to save(export) the movie to a lower bitrate....

alot of peepz using like 380k or 512k... i ike 768k bitrate... its 640x480 and can go full screen and still look real nice. if your just doing basic editing and wanna get shit down kwik and get it busy.... dont use premiere... use moviemaker2 built into windowsXP. if you dont have version 2, you can download it for free from microsoft.com It's a great tool to get shit done quick.... especially for the web. It takes many hours of trial and error processing of footage to get to where you will be happy with the file size to quality ratio.

Not likely anybody will give away their secrets. You can go to a good video resource site like http://www.videohelp.com/ where you are more likely to find info on what you are asking about. btw 30meg for a 2 min clip is nuts unless your bandwidth is free.

		 I use cleaner,

and 30 mb is way to much for 2 minutes, absolute max should be 15mb for that |

Great response. Here's a clue idiot.....I could have given you directions on how to do EXACTLY what your question was asking...Instead, I posted a question to you in order to get you to think about it. Now you try to insult me? Go ahead and make your 30MB 2 minute clips.....I hope you enjoy paying for un-necessary bandwidth.....OR....You could rethink your process, realize that I am right......as usual, and save yourself a shitload of money. Your move chief. |

We use two programs because sometimes one works better

than other. We convert in bulk, so converting like 150 mpegs at a time all to WMV. I recommend: http://www.xvideoconverter.com/ or http://www.avsmedia.com/VideoConverter/index.aspx Both under $30 (last I checked) and both convert from ANY format, to any other. XVideo will do bulk, AVS won't. AVS will do effects (cuts, captions, etc) but XVideo won't. Under LAN 120kbps or whatever it is, we went from a 9 meg clips to a 300 kb clip without a big difference in quality. We've used pinnacle, premiere, and every other program out there. If you're looking for speed, those two are the best for the money. Good luck, Luc L.

unless u encode from the source material it's gonna look like crap. takes more time to do things right though.

converting from one format to another, chopping, joining - all make things worse. i was hoping the chopping wouldn't degrade things but it does. i'm not an expert tho, ymmv. |

To: All of the helpful post, Thanks, I appreciate the help.

To: All of the DRAMA Queens: I didn't ask the question to start a: "BIG DICK - I KNOW MORE THAN YOU" Thread. I simply asked a question because I OBVIOUSLY didn't know what the hell I was doing. Now thanks to some helpful individuals I have a much clearer idea of what I need to do. A quick word of advise from a person with a masters in HR and Business, don't throw insults at people you do not know, especially in view of your peers. In the end you look like a fool. My response to you, AaronM was not intended as a insuilt but a statement of response to your unnecessary post. If you had simply neglected to respond in this thread it would have been fine, If you had posted usefull information it would have been great. |

You were the one asking for help and yes, you would have recieved it from me, without hesitation, were you not abrasive and impatient in your comments. Please remember that this is a board where others are not necessarily on the same timezones as you and that you may not get the response you desire, immediately. You will obtain more with sugar than with acidic comments. Oh a side note .. Since you do have a masters in HR and Business, you should realise that a spell checker would be a handy tool for everyday use.
