Here some sobering stats

From CNN's website:
http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2003/ira...es/casualties/

Has a list of all Americans killed in the Iraqi war along with their specs and pictures. I just look at all those young lives snuffed out before they had a chance to even begin to realize their life's goal and feel greatly saddened.

There is even a chart that breaks it down according to age, gender, ethnicity, etc. The 22-25 year old category have suffered the most losses folled by the under 21 group.

I think when we just hear "another soldier was killed today in Iraq" on the news or read that in the newspaper, we might wince a bit, and then get on with our life.

But when you see some specifics about each soldier along with their face, man..it really brings the war home and makes you realize the ultimate sacrifice these people made.

What I wonder is how many more must die before there is a solution to the Iraqi war (if there ever will be one), and I can't even beging to know what the families and loved ones of those who have lost someone in Iraq feels.

I doubt you would say that if one of your loved ones was in that 1000.

Yes it is war, but the question remains: WAS/IS it necessary for these people to die, and to CONTINUE TO DIE?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!
When do we say: "Enuf is enuf. Bring the soldiers home!"
At 2000 deaths, at 20,000 deaths, at *50,000* deaths?

Go figure.... some dumb ass, uneducated, hillbilly comment would come from your ass.

You truly have no clue on whats going on around you do you?

If they died for a reason that yes... but they were sent to their death based on lies and misinformation.

Wake up!

if you REALLY want sobering facts why dont you people talk about the maimed, has it reached 8000 yet?

I know being killed is rough on families, but dont let ONLY the deaths sway your mind, THINK of the people who will go on now either debating suicide weekly or simply living in pain and making everyones life around them difficult.

You do realize that this is an all volunteer army, right?

While the loss of life is sad, it is rather amazing that there are so few that they can put up all their pictures. I would have liked to have seen them try that during Nam, Korea, WWI, WWII

But that's comparing apples to oranges.
BIG difference in reason and need to go to war in World War II

You have to keep this in context..and you just cannot say "Well we lost MILLIONS in WWII, so this is no big thing."

No, did not break down the casualites...only deaths..1049 coaliton deaths to the time they printed this.
Casualties graph/list would be TOO BIG to be put online.

But I agree with you, all of the maimed, both physically & psycologocially is overwhelming too!

yes . . . what many fail to realize is that there are casualties in our military every fucking day, even when we are not at war.

in fact, during Desert Storm they said we had fewer casualties than if everyone had been back in the US, on base getting killed in training exercises, domestic disputes, drunk driving . . .

Maybe a gun misfired? Or someone shot into the air to celebrate and the bullet happened to come back down on someone's head?

We should start more wars to keep our troops away from the dangers of the United States.

non hostile is the military way of saying friendly fire without really saying it.

he was shot by one of his own soldiers on "accident."

notice not one of them is mentioned as dying from "friendly fire"

which we KNOW happens.

Don't know if anyone saw the CBS evening news tonite, but one of their segments was how Combat Stress is starting to really hit returning G.I.s big time.

And they went on to say (was a bit suprised to find that these stats are considered HIGH), that at least 90% of all combat troops had shot at someone, at least 90% had seen a dead body, and that at least 48% killed an enemy combatant.

These numbers are really high compared to say Viet Nam?

What's so friendly about "friendly fire"
And any bullet that hits you did not come from "NON HOSTILE" means..to me..any bullet fired is hostile.

Just one of many news articles that are coming out weekly to show that the evidence of this entire war was flawed at best, at worse was a lie.

My friends son was in Iraq and though at the front, he walked into villages not know he would walk out again. He's in specail services and fought in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The biggest different to him was, in Afghan he felt welcomes, in Iraq he felt hated. When will some Americans come to realise the world does not love or respect them because they are Americans. Both things have to be earned.

One war did earn it and then the next lost it.

The other frightening thing about the list is look at how many died from "Non Hostile" activities.

1. Weapons of Mass Destruction (where are they?)

2. America is Safer (America raised its warning level based on Pakistani intelligence. WTF! Knowing full well that Osama and Al Queda are the number one threat at the moment, why tie up 130 thousand troops in Iraq who were the number 5 (being generous) threat at the time of invasion. So there's 15 thousand troops looking for Osama and 130 thousand in Iraq.)

3. Iraq was apart of the 9/11 tragedy. (9/11 comission reports say they were not involved)

Shall I continue?

I know you're republican, I know you hate Canada and I know you're just a message board character. But please, take a long hard look at all of those people listed in the link to cnn. Think of who they were as a person. Think of their mothers, their fathers, their children, their friends, etc. Please take the time to do that before you reply with ignorant, biased and aloof remarks about your support for this war.

Your immaturity is obvious with this kind of reply. If ONE person dies it's a tragedy, no matter what the circumstances are. With 1000 deaths and no justified cause to date it's MURDER. Saddam hussein is on trial for killing his own people, if there was any justice in the world BUSH would be next.

The war can't be considered flawed IF the end result is a free Iraq. Stop before that is a reality - that makes it a flawed war.

Wonder how many of you that bash Bush even vote..

And how many DECADES will that take to happen, and after how much money do we pour in, and how many more Iraqis die, and Americans and anyone else that gets caught in the line of fire?

There IS NO LIGHT at the end of this tunnel!

There are times the United States needs to admit that IT MADE A MISTAKE! THIS, is one of those times.

As John Kennedy said after the Bay of Pigs in 1961, "Victory has many fathers, but defeat is an orphan." This is a bastard war.

Funny, all that bullshit and not one example of a lie that was told.

wrong, wrong, and what?

All intelligence agencies from around the world said there were WMD's. Inaccurate information being provided to GWB does not make him a liar.

You seem to forget, Iraq lost 12 years ago, they failed to live up to the terms of their surrender.

Their loss.

9/11 and war in Iraq are 2 different things. Stop trying to tie them together

Idiot. Whose death did Bush order?

I guess the question is is a lie that is based on bad info still a lie. If I tell you that my friend is letting me use his truck so I can help you move something with it then my friend backs out and won't let me use his truck was me telling you I would help you a lie?

Bush was told by several sources that Iraq posed no threat.

No less than 8 nuclear scientist told him that the aluminum tubes they found were not for enriching uranium.

Yet he still went on national TV and told us that they were a threat and were trying to develop nukes. Is that not a lie?

Powell went before the UN and told them we know exactly where the chemical and biological weapons are but then it turns out those were water trucks not trucks carrying chemicals for weapons. Is that not a lie?

Yes there was a bunch of wrong information but when someone tells you something, you belive it and present it to others as the truth and then it's found out that that info was wrong, so you were wrong doesn't that then turn your truth into a lie?
