Password sites: Am I missing something?

I have a paycounter on my member entry page on my paysite. From time to time, the hits will go bananas, and when I check the referrers, I see my site listed (with password, of course) at sites like http://www.ultrapasswords.com

So I remove that user from the system.

Now... last time I was at http://www.ultrapasswords.com I decided to email another webmaster whose site was also listed. He wrote me back and thanked me for the heads up....

... but it's now 24 hrs later, and he still hasn't closed the user name. Why? Any ideas?

Also, I have another idea (whaddayareckon??) that goes like this:
1. Create a new user name/password.
2. Email it to (say) ultrapasswords
3. Write a cgi script that checks the user name and redirects the surfer to a dialer (saying something like "welcome to our members area". Please download our viewer) and make him run a dialer!

Would that be unethical?

When I found that a password site had given their users backdoor entree into one of the content areas on my one of my sites, I moved the bulk of the content to a new area, changed links accordingly, put up just a few samples in the area the password site was linking to, along with some text inviting them to my join URL if they'd like to see more of the same. The idiot password site has left that link up for months now.

Wildman - I'm in Box Hill.

UnseenWorld - That's a brilliant idea since you'd get heaps more mileage!! Making it look like it's a "real" entry. So if one could fool the password site owners.... hmmmm... maybe that's one reason why there are so many sites listed there.

richard123,

password sites protect themselves from people like you the same way people like you protect themselves from password sites.

in other words, they'll block your site eventually.

I stoped paying attention to these sites a while ago. I thought they had all became blind links to sponsors or simply were run by the sponsors themselves likle here http://www.xxxpassword.com

Funny shit to see the competition and what they actually have inside. I think they deserve to go out of business anyways because these are not sites that have stuff to make the surfer rebill anyways

Some paysite owners will actually create a short-term membership and then submit it to several password sites. In effect, they are giving a free trial to their site.

Richard,

use the refferer function of .htaccess
to redirect the user to
"popups.html".

popups.html will open 100+ pop up windows until the evil person's browser crashes.

Thanx Corpsie. That seems to be the most effective way of dealing with the redirect (rather than a script) as long as I know all of the password sites (which should be pretty easy).

Next time he does it, redirect your pages around and send his traffic to a sponsor.

I had a paysite and he tried to (ultrapasswords) fuck with me too. But I made about $500.00 a day for two weeks with his traffic.

He can send 50,000 through his top links. He's the biggest password site.

Lush,

you lasted two weeks on it? that's pretty good. most those sites are scripted, so you can probably get away with it for a little while.
